Eligibility for Admission to MBBS Degree
Admission and Course Duration
1. Qualifying Examination
A candidate seeking admission to first MBBS course:
1. Shall have passed two years Pre University examination conducted by Department of Pre-University
Education, Karnataka state, with English as one of the subject, and physics, Chemistry and Biology as
optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
individually also.
OR
2. Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education
established by State Governments/Central Government and recognized as equivalent to two year Pre-
University examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/Association of Indian
University (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional
subjects and the candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
individually.
OR
3. Shall have passed intermediate examination in Science of an Indian University/Board/Council of other
recognized examining bodies with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which shall include a practical test in
these subjects and also English as compulsory subject. The candidate shall have passed subjects of
English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually.
OR
4. Shall have passed first year if the three year degree course of a recognized University with physics,
Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination in an
‘University Examination’ provided that the candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics,
Chemistry and Biology individually in the pre university or other examinations mentioned in the clauses
above.
OR
5. Shall have passed B.Sc Examination of an Indian University, provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc
Examination with not less than two of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany,
Zoology) provided the candidate has passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
individually in the qualifying examinations mentioned in clauses (a), (b) and (c). Note: Candidates who
have Passed “Physical Sciences” instead of Physics and Chemistry as two separate subjects are not
eligible for admission to MBBS course as per Medical Council of India Regulation vide letter MCI-
37(2)/2001/Med.922 dated 14.02.2001 and RGUHS letter UA/ELY-115/1998-2000 dated 22.05.2001

The selection of students to medical colleges shall be based on merit provided that:
a) In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to MBBS course
must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have
obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying
examination, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes of Other
Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in qualifying
examination be 40% instead of 50& as above.
b) In case of admission on the basis of competitive entrance examination, a candidate must have passed
individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained a
minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the qualifying examination
and in addition must have come in the merit list prepared as a result of such competitive entrance
examination by securing not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in
the competitive examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes
or Other Backward Classes the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in
qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination be 40% instead of 50% as state above.

Eligibility for Admission
MD/MS Degree and Diploma Courses: A candidate who has passed MBBS examination after pursuing a
study in a medical college recognized by the Medical Council of India, from a recognized Medical College
affiliated to any other University recognized as equivalent thereto, and has completed one year compulsory
rotating internship in a teaching Institution or other Institution recognized by the Medical Council of India,
and has obtained permanent registration of any State Medical Council shall be eligible for admission.
Obtaining Eligibility Certificate by the University before making admission.
Eligibility certificate issued by the University is a pre requisite for approval of admission to any Post-Graduate
Degree/Diploma courses unless the candidate has passed the qualifying examination in the Karnataka Pre University
Board (for UG) and this University (for PG Degree/ Diploma). The candidate has to make an application in the
prescribed format downloadable from the University website www.rguhs.ac.in/ or apply online to the university with
the following documents along with the prescribed fee:
A. MBBS degree certificate issued by the University.
B. Marks cards of all the university examination passed MBBS course
C. Attempt certificate issued by the Principal.( For PG)
D. Certificate regarding the recognition of the medical college by the medical council of India.
E. Completion of internship certificate.
F. Permanent Registration by any state Medical Council and
G. Proof of SC/ST or Category – I, issued by Karnataka Revenue authorities as the case may be.
Candidate should obtain the Eligibility Certificate before the last date for admission as notified by the university.
D.M and M.Ch Courses
D.M: Candidate seeking admission for D.M courses in any subject must possess recognized degree of MD
(or its equivalent recognized degree) in the subject specified in the regulation of the Medical Council of India
from time to time.
M.Ch: Candidate seeking admission for M.Ch course in any subject must possess recognized degree of MS
(or its equivalent recognized degree) in the subject specified in the regulation of the Medical Council of India
from time to time.

Eligibility for Admission BDS Degree
1. Qualifying Examination
A candidate seeking admission to first BDS course:
a) Shall have passed the two years Pre-University Examination of Pre-University Board of Karnataka with
English and Physics Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed
subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually* also

b) Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education

Post Graduate Dental Degree and Diploma Courses
A candidate for admission to the MDS course (Master of Dental Surgery) must have
1. recognized degree if BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) awarded by an Indian University in respect of
recognized Dental College under Section 10(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948 or an equivalent qualification
recognized by the Dental Council of India and should have obtained permanent registration with the Sate
Dental Council.
2. Candidates not possessing a recognized Dental Qualification for the above purpose should secure the
prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he can be admitted to the MDS
Courses of any University in India.
3. Qualification for the above purpose should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental

4. Candidates who possess PG Diploma recognized by the DCI with the duration of 2 years (proposed) in
particular specialty is eligible for admission in MDS in the same specialty and the duration will be of 2
years. The syllabus of two years programmed will be as per the concerned university guidelines.
5. Provided that in the case if foreign national, the Dental Council of India may, on payment of the
prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training
restricted to the dental college / institution to which he is admitted for the time being exclusively for
postgraduate studies.
Provided that further temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that
such person is duly registered as dental practitioner in his own country from which he has obtained his basic
dental qualification and that his degree is recognized by the corresponding dental council of concerned
authority.

a).Qualifying Examination
A candidate seeking admission to first BAMS course:
i) Shall have passed two years Pre University examination conducted by Department of Pre-
University Education, Karnataka State, with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry
and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics,
Chemistry and Biology individually also. Preference will be given to candidates knowing Sanskrit. **

ii) Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education
established by State Governments/ Central Government and recognized as equivalent to two year Pre
University examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/Association of Indian
Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as
optional subjects and the candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and
Biology individually.
iii) The candidates who have passed the B.Sc Part- I degree examination of any University or
equivalent examination conducted by statutory Universities or Boards with Science subjects namely
Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany & Zoology and secured not less than 50% of marks in the
aggregate are eligible for admission to I BAMS Course, provided the candidate has passed the PUC
examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as one of the languages.

Dated 19/09/2006 Admission Qualification:-
1. Student must have passed two years P UC examination or nay other examination recognized as
equivalent thereto with English as one of the languages and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as
optional subjects with not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate of the relevant Science subjects
(Physics, Chemistry and Biology) of the Second year P UC examination only are eligible for admission
to BAMS Course.
(the words ”Preference will be given to candidates knowing Sanskrit” is deleted)
2. The candidate who have passed the B Sc part-1 DEGREE EXAMINATION OF ANY University or
equivalent examination conducted by statutory University or Boards with Science subjects namely
Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany & Zoology and secured not less than 50% of marks in the
aggregate are eligible for admission to 1 BAMS Course, provided the candidate has passed the PUC
examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as one of the languages.
3. Candidates who have passed B Sc examination of any University in India or recognized as equivalent
thereto with any three (3) Science subjects with not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate are eligible
for admission to BAMS Course. Provided they have passed in the deficient Science subject(s) namely-
Physics, Chemistry, or Biology (Botany & Zoology), and English as one of the languages at the Pre – University or B Sc part- 1 level.
4. However in the case of students belong to SC/ST and Category -1, the minimum requirement in
percentage of marks for admission to BAMS Course is relaxed by 10% marks.

Eligibility for Admission
A candidate who has passed final year BAMS examination after perusing prescribed course of study in an Ayurveda
Medical College affiliated to this University and recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, or from a
recognized Ayurveda Medical College affiliated to any other University, recognized as equivalent thereto by RGUHS,
and has completed one year compulsory internship in the teaching institution or any other institution recognized by
CCIM for internship, and has obtained permanent registration of a State Ayurveda Practitioners Registration
Board/Ayurveda council, shall be eligible for admission.
Further, a sponsored/deputed candidate (Ayurveda Teachers of Physicians) will be required to possess
qualification essential for admission.
Obtaining Eligibility Certificate by the University before making admission.
No candidate shall be admitted for any Post-Graduate Degree courses [MD (Ay)/MS (Ay)] unless the
candidate has obtained and produced the eligibility certificate issued by the university. The candidate has to
make an application to the university with the following self attested photocopies of documents along with
the prescribed fee:
a. BAMS pass/ degree certificate issued by the University.
b. Marks cards of all the university examinations passed (I to Final Year of BAMS course).

equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subject and English as
one of the languages.
III) A Candidate who has passed B.Sc Degree examination of any University in India or recognized as
equivalent thereto with the following science subject namely Chemistry Botany & Zoology and
secured not less than 40% of marks in the aggregate in B Sc final examination in above mentioned
subjects is eligible for admission to 1 BHMS course provided the candidate has passed Pre-
University or equivalent examination with Physics., Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects
and English as one of the languages at the Pre- University or B.Sc Part-I level.
Note :
The Candidate should have passed the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology individually in
the Pre- University or its equivalent examination.
In case of students belonging to SC/St and category-1, the minimum requirement in
percentage of marks shall not be less than 35% for admission to 1 BHMS Course.
IV) A candidate should have attained the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of his/her
admission.

1. Eligibility Criteria/Admission Requirements:
No Candidate shall be admitted to MD Homeopathy course unless he/she possesses the degree of-
a).Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery or Equivalent qualification in Homoeopathy included in
the Second Scheduled to the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973, after undergoing a course of study of
not less than five years and six months duration including one year compulsory internship;

1. Candidates who have passed AISCCE conducted by CBSE, New Delhi, but failed in any one of the
cognate subjects of the qualifying examination are not eligible for admission to higher class where those

2. In some cases ,it is noticed that All India Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the
Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, the candidates who have offered Physics, Chemistry
and Biology and Mathematics subjects at the said examination and failed in any one of the above subjects
is declared as ‘PASS’ by the Board as per their regulations. Such candidates are not eligible for
admission to degree in Medical and other Health Sciences courses in RGUHS unless he/she has passed

3. The candidates belonging to Backward Tribe or Category of outside Karnataka State (Other than SC/ST)
are not eligible to claim the relaxation in the percentage minimum in their qualifying examination.
4. Admissions to various courses should be made as per the intake sanctioned by the Government for the
year 1997-98. Colleges shall not make excess admissions. Admissions exceeding the intake fixed shall
be invalid (Vide Section 45(10) (b) of RGUHS Act 1994).
5. A candidate who has passed the qualifying examination conducted subsequent to the Annual
Examination of 1997 are not eligible for admission to any Course during the Academic Year 1997-98, for
example-Karnataka Pre-University student successful at the supplementary exam conducted after 1997 annual

6. Students who have passed job linked post SSLC intensive Training/Vocational Courses conducted by

ii) In addition persons holding D.Pharm qualification from an institutions approved by the PCI u/s 12 of
the Pharmacy Act irrespective of the fact whether the candidate has passed out D.Pharm course under
Education Regulations, 1991 or repealed Education Regulations 1953, 1972, and 1981 shall be
eligible for admission in the 2nd year B.Pharm against the vacant seats of 1st year B.Pharm.

For declaration of pass in any subjects in the university examinations, a candidate shall pass both
in theory and practical/clinical examinations, a candidate shall pass both in theory and practical/clinical
examinations components separately as stipulated below:
The theory component consists of marks obtained in university written papers (s) and internal
assessment (theory). For a pass in theory, a candidate shall secure not less than 40% marks in university

In exercise of the powers conferred under section 35(1) of RGUHS Act 1994, the Syndicate in its
76th
Meeting held on 30/07/2008, based on the recommendation of Government of Karnataka is pleased to
amend the Ordinance pertaining to syllabus and scheme of examinations of Bachelor of Physiotherapy
course as shown below:
“Applicant should have passed II-PUC or equivalent examination with optional of Physics,
Chemistry and Biology with English as one of the languages of study and has obtained less than 40% of
aggregate marks in the PCB (35% of SC/ST & OBC applicants)”.
ALLOWING LATERAL ENTRY TO BPT PROGRAMME FOR THOSE STUDENTS
WHO HAVE COMPLETED DIPLOMA IN PHYSIOTHERAPY
Notification:-
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 35(2) of RGUHS act the syndicate in its meeting held on
25/11/2008approved the recommendations of BOS physiotherapy and Academic Council and pleased to
notify the following
1. Lateral Entry shall be to III year of the 4 1/2 years BPT Course.
2. The students who have completed DPT course Conducted by paramedical board is eligible for lateral
entry.
3. College is allowed to admit the candidates, 10% over and above the stipulated intake capacity.
4. All disputes pertaining to the Examination or admission shall fall within the jurisdiction Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences, Bangalore Karnataka. With reference to redressal of any grievances

pertaining to the above mentioned issues, Rajiv Gandhi University shall be the original authority.
5. Any other details not specifically covered by the clauses mentioned above will be decided by the
Registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and his decision will be final and also he is
empowered to from the academic year 2008-09 until further orders.

the same subject studied in diploma level from the academic year 2008-09 vide RGUHS Notification no.

Bachelors in any Allied health Sciences provided they are not eligible for the lateral entry Scheme
details of which are mentioned conducted by Para Medical Board, Directorate of Medical
Education, Government of Karnataka shall be eligible to join the first year in any allied health
sciences bachelors programs conducted by RGUHS
For Lateral entry program the criteria shall be as follows :-
a. B.SC MLT- A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent as per RGUHS
norms from a government recognized board / paramedical board candidates are eligible to join
for B.Sc MLT to 2nd year.
b. B.Sc cardiac Care Technology – A diploma in Cardiac Care Technology/ Perfusion
Technology or equivalent as per RGUHS norms from a government recognized board/
paramedical board candidates are eligible to join for B.Sc Cardiac Care Technology to 2nd
year.
c. B.Sc Perfusion Technology –A diploma in Cardiac Care Technology/ perfusion Technology or
equivalent as per RGUHS norms from a government recognized board / paramedical board
Candidates are eligible to join for B.Sc Perfusion Technology to 2nd year.
d. B.Sc Anesthesia Technology -A diploma in Operation Theatre Technology / Anesthesia
Technology or equivalent as per RGUHS norms from a government recognized board

POST GRADUATE M.SC MLT (MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY) COURSE
1. Eligibility for Admission
a. A pass in B.Sc MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology) Courses from institution affiliated to
RGUHS, or from other University considered equivalent by RGUHS.
b. Candidate passing B.Sc MLT through correspondence course shall not be eligible.
2. Obtaining Eligibility Certificate by the University before making admission.
No candidate shall be admitted for the postgraduate degree. Course unless the candidate has obtained and
produced the eligibility certificate issued by the university. The candidate has to make the application to the
university with the following documents along with the prescribed fee.
a. Pass/Degree certificate issued by the university.
b. Marks cards of all the university examination passed.
c. Migration certificate
d. Certificate if conduct.
e. Proof of SC/ST or Category-I as the case may be.
Candidate should obtain the eligible certificate before the last date for admission as notified by the
university.
A candidate who has been admitted to post-graduate course should register his/her name in the
university within a month of admission after paying the registration fee.

to the post Graduate studies such as minimum marks secured, age, domicile etc., shall be
applicable to M .Sc ( PSR& counseling) course;
2.A candidate who has a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/ institution in any of
the following subjects is eligible to seek admission to M.Sc (PSR& counseling) course:
Social work/psychology/sociology/ Nursing/ Home science/ occupational therapy OR any
Graduate/post Graduate who has secured not less than 50% of aggregate marks in the final
examination excluding marks in languages.
Any graduate in health science courses from RGUHS or from any other recognized Indian
university or its equivalent.
