What is an adaptation?
An adaptation is a special trait an animal has in order to survive.
The Jaguar
Jaguar’s Adaptations* fast, good swimmer* strong, short limbs
* strong jaw and sharp teeth* stocky build, smaller size to live in
trees
Spider Monkey Adaptations* Long limbs
* Strong, powerful tail* Live in the top of trees, the
canopy
Toucan’s Adaptations•Big bills for eating fruits and
nuts• Sleep in holes in trees
•Turn themselves into feathery balls to fit into the holes
•Perfect claws to stand on trees•Perfect color to blend into
surroundings
Lizards and Frogs
Lizards and Frogs* Special flaps of skin to glide
between tree tops* Bright colors to warn
predators that it is poisonous
Gorilla’s Adaptations
* Herbivorous – lots of plants to eat!
* Thick hair to protect from insect bites, and keeps them
warm.
