Ragib Ali

Ragib Ali (Bengali: রািগবআলী; born 10 October 1938)is a Bangladeshi-born British industrialist,[2] pioneer tea-planter and educationalist. He is also associated withbank, insurance companies, and many other businesshouses.

1 Early life

Ali was born in Talibpur, Bishwanath, Sylhet District,Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh), British India. Hehas eight brothers.Ali studied at the Raza G.C High School and College ofSylhet. In 1956, at the age of 18, he moved to the UnitedKingdom to further his education.

2 Career

In 1961, after completing his education Ali started beinginvolved in business. Once in the UK, he transformedhimself from an ordinary waiter to a leading entrepreneur.He still has links with UK through his family members,who live in London as well as in Bradford, the majority ofhis father’s family now live in Croydon, South London.[3]

3 Other work

Ali is the Chairman of Sylhet Tea Company Ltd. andseveral other tea estates in Sylhet and Chittagong. He isalso the Managing Director of Kohinoor Industries Ltd.and TLRA Holdings Ltd (owner of Kohinoor DetergentFactory). He is the Chairman of Southeast Bank Limited.He has played a pioneering role in the tea industry. He isinvolved in charitable activities and has set up numeroustrusts and educational institutions.[3]

Ali is the founder chairman of Jalalabad Ragib-RabeyaMedical College. He is also the immediate past Chair-man of North South University Foundation. He is alsothe founder of Leading University and University of AsiaPacific. He also contributed in many schools and estab-lished many colleges around Bangladesh.[3]
