CHANGES ON OUR HORIZON
As we close out the 2018-2019 school year, I want to thank you for an incredible year. Your dedication to
Jewish education not only requires a commitment of both time and resources, it also depends on your
decision to make Jewish education a priority in your home. We are grateful for your support and will strive
over the coming school year to engage both students and families in our common endeavor to teach the
values, traditions, and history of Judaism to a new generation.
I want to particularly commend our teachers who labor to impart their wisdom to our students. This year
we have had some incredible programs and innovative lessons. In Judaism, hardly any higher praise exists
than to call someone a teacher.
Being Jewish is a year-round activity and even though there is no Religious School in the summer, we all
continue to do Jewish things—we just need to be intentional about naming them for ourselves and our
children. For example, when riding bikes, hiking, swimming we are doing the mitzvah of shmirat ha-guf,
taking care of our health. When we are cleaning the basement or garage, we are showing kavod for the family’s space. Father’s Day
celebration is honoring parents; and throwing away garbage when you are at a barbeque in a park is Bal takhshit, taking care of the
environment. And as a kehillah, community, use social media to keep in touch. Gates of Heaven is still open during the summer;
Shabbat services are a great way to see friends.
Registration is open for our 2019-2020 school year, which begins September 15. Don’t wait till the last minute—go to our website for
all your registration material. Building on this year’s positive relationships, we look forward to greeting your child on that first day
of school, and partnering to ensure your child’s story, strengths, and needs are known and supported.
Have a safe and fun summer!
Please join us for a recognition brunch in honor of Rabbi Eleanor Pearlman on Sunday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the temple. This event
is free and no reservations are required.

SISTERHOOD
Sisters, thank you so much!! Your loyalty and generosity—73 paid members for 2018-2019—generated $4,020.00 in membership dues
and donations. Many of you, over 40 %, made donations in addition to your dues. Because of your support, we were able to fund
these Sisterhood sponsored activities: Fall Meet and Greet, Women's Seder, Chanukah White Elephant, and the Sephardic Dinner
and Dessert night. In addition, we contributed to the Religious School, Cemetery Fund, and the B'nai Mitzvah gifts. We also made
grants to the Regional Food Bank Backpack Program, the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, the Schenectady Schools Foundation, and in
memory of Jane Golub. A number of our members also consistently volunteered to support programs in the local community,
attended meeting, and served on committees. Sisters, we can be very proud of our record in promoting community and Tikkun
Olam! If you still would like to pay your 2018-2019 dues, the fiscal year ends on June 30, 2019, please contact temple bookkeeper,

Our deepest sympathy to
the bereaved families.
Have you seen our beautiful new parking lot? This was made possible because of the generosity of Neil Golub,
who has made us this gift to honor the memory of his beloved wife Jane, and which we receive with tremendous appreciation.
