Radio Network Objects (cont.)

• RNC : network element in a radio access network, which is in charge of controlling the use and

integrity of the radio resources

• WBTS : base transceiver station of the third generation network

• WCELL : cell of the third generation network

• CoCo : managed logical object in the radio network configuration management, displaying the

transmission in the Iub interface and specifying the Iub link configuration to the ATM level

• FMCx : managed object in the radio network configuration management, including the parameters

for measuring the transmission frequencies

• HOPx : information indicating handover decision parameters which control the handover from the

serving cell to a specified neighbouring cell

• ADJx : relationship that is defined between a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) cell

and a neighbouring cell

• WSMLC : serving mobile location centre that is used in a third generation network and that has

specific parameters for each radio network controller

• WLCSE : logical object that contains WCDMA cell specific location parameters that are needed for

the positioning algorithms

AAL2 Multiplexing

• Feature since RAN04

• Enable statistical multiplexing gain

• Save Iub transmission capacity

• Reduce the number of VCC between BTS and RNC

Iub Dimensioning (cont’)

• Iub capacity = U-Plane + CNBAP + DNBAP + AAL2sig + O&M

• 150 CPS (~ 64 kbps) of O&M is recommended per BTS.

• Min CNBAP, DNBAP and AAL2SIG is 39 CPS each and max 2100 per WAM

• The CNBAP bandwidth requirement depends on,

• the call setup

• radio link addition (soft handover)

• the RRI period

• The DNBAP capacity requirement depends on,

• the number of calls

• call lengths

• RLM report period

Iub Dimensioning (cont’)

• Signaling load 6 – 7 % of Iub capacity

• Ratio CNBAP : DNBAP : AAL2SIG
