DESCRIPTION

We couldn't decide which concept for our short film we were going to pursue, so we listed the positives and negatives to help us decide.

Ideas for A2 Project

Concept Ideas

The main idea is showing the deterioration of a person’s life due to different experiences

throughout a space of time. We will present this via a short film. The problem that we are having is we do not know what the issues that the person will be

having, therefore we will have to research the different ideas we have by seeing whether or not

they are compatible with our surroundings.

The Problems!1. The girl has had a family member die and suffers from

depression2. Being harassed by her boss; being given too much work to

cope with because she refused his offers of unprofessional things…

3. In a relationship with a violent boyfriend until it goes too far for her resulting in her fighting back

4. Being stalked by an unknown person i.e. via Facebook/Twitter/texts/phone calls etc.

5. A girl is being haunted by herself. All of her emotions are presented as people that bully her.

6. Bad upbringing and hanging around with the wrong people, pressured into violent actions, drug abuse, alcohol abuse etc.

1.Positive • It happens to a lot of people therefore many

people can relate to it• It’s realistic• Specific storyline, it is simple therefore there

wouldn’t be any complications Negative• Very common• Short film’s are normally abstract however

this storyline isn’t, it is extremely simple• Predictable storyline – it can only go so far,

i.e. suicide• Would need a lot of cast members• If we were to show a specific person was

dead we would need a graveyard/cemetery, which would be disrespectful

2.Positive • Not a common subject • Has more than one outcome• Different to other problemsNegative• Would need a professional workplace –

difficult to find• Hard to find cast that are willing to act like

this• Could be too complicated to plan out• Difficult for the audience to follow• Not very abstract

3.Positive • Could be abstract – when she fights back

she could go too far (murder by self-defence) but still act as if he is alive as she is too shocked by her actions

• Locations and cast are not specific to the storyline

Negative• Acting may be too advanced for the cast

we have• Difficult to find a male who will play the

role• Camera shots may be difficult in it looking

realistic

4.Positive • Would be easy to film• Not a lot of major acting needs to be

performed so it will be easy to find the cast

• Stereotypical subject matter of a teenager (Facebook/Twitter etc.)

• Can be made more abstract depending on how we choose to produce it

• Has happened to people before, normally naïve teenagers

Negative• May be too cliché

5.Positive • Not common• Is abstract, following the conventions of a

normal stingers• Difficult to understand at first but obvious

as the plot unfolds• Not a lot of casts needed• Just typical locations, nothing specific• Can experiment with cinematography

Negative• May be difficult to understand if people

don’t watch it properly

6.Positive • A lot of people can relate to this• Modern• Social awareness

Negative• There are already a lot of shows on this i.e.

Shameless and the short film Wasp• Would need a lot of cast in a suburban area to

get the idea across • Would need certain costumes to fit the

stereotype• Location shots would play a vital part in

representing the social class (gangs, drug abuse etc.)

• Props i.e. drug substances may be too difficult to imitate
