I have brought the supplies needed to gesso or prime a canvas… you should have brought an extra canvas or canvas board.

Color Gradation

Saturated Desaturated BASICALLY: Start with white add a tiny amount of blue

Color + White = TintingColor + Black = Shading

1.Draw with a pencil the basic composition (shapes) onto canvas.

*Making sure not to put the sun/moon shape in the center.

2. Choose the color format for painting the background:

• Blue sky OR• Red sky

3. Begin with sun/moon first. Paint the circle with Titanium White.

REMEMBER:

Add a few drops of the medium each time you add more color to the mixture…

This will keep the color from drying and getting darker.

4. Add a tiny amount of the Cadmium Medium Red to the Titanium White.

Use this to paint the first ring.

4. Add a tiny amount of the Ultramarine Blue to the Titanium White. Use this to paint the first ring.4

Use this to paint the 2nd ring.

7. Add more of the Cadmium Medium Red to the Titanium White.

Count how many rings you have left in the sky…

Notice the farthest ring is the pure (saturated) color.

Continue to add more color for each ring until you reach saturation…

The sky is complete!

9. Begin the foreground… Start with pure Titanium White. Paint the farthest mountain with the White *.

Count how many mountain gradations you will need to create before you reach full saturation of your color.

10. Add a small amount of the Cadmium Medium Red to the Titanium White. Use this to paint the second mountain.

10. Add a tiny amount of the Ultramarine Blue to the Titanium White. Use this to paint the second mountain.

Continue the foreground… Adding more of your color for each mountain

coming forward until you reach the closest mountain.

Paint the closest mountain in the saturated color. *
