CLOTHING - PAST aND PRESENT

Looking for ideas on how to modernize teaching, make it more interesting, and encourage pupils to do some research work, we came across an interesting idea – to familiarise our pupils with the old customs and manner of dressing of their ancestors.

With this project we wanted to connect the past with the future at the present by developing a positive attitude about the traditions and local heritage that we inherited.

The project has been realized in the form of group work through different activities and integration of school subjects.Pupils gathered information from different media sources and collected old clothes, jewelry and fashion accessories with a lot of help from their parents and grandparents.Class was divided into eight groups. Each group had a coordinator who gave weekly reports on how well the realization of the project was going.

Pupils participated in the project with great joy, and

they also involved their parents.

During the work, we were surprised by their creativity, mutual respect and unity.

By doing their best, pupils made an exhibition that has delighted both parents and other pupils of our school.

It is difficult to describe in words every detail of this project, so it is best to just give a brief overview.

The first group collected old photos and old clothes.

The second group tried to find out how people used to dress for funerals.

The third group prepared a presentation of clothes for weddings – old and new.

The fourth group presented the history of bathing suits.

The fifth group presented Jewelry, costumes and fashion details of our region through time.

The sixth group presented development of headgear.

The seventh group explored school clothes through history.

The eighth group presented handbags through time.

They also tried to compare old and new clothes. We were particularly rejoiced by the participation of our pupil VALENTINA

who is being schooled at home because of her condition.

Conclusion

Pupils enjoyed working on this project.

They learned how to research different topics; they evaluated historic resources and practiced teamwork.

They also developed an awareness of the rich and very interesting traditions and local heritage of their city.

This kind of work enabled the development of pupils’ national pride and identity. It also stimulated their desire to present the cultural and natural treasures of their homeland

to people from other countries.

We also became very popular: because of the presentation of the project and the exhibition, we appeared on national

television news. Pupils learned that it takes a lot of work to create something that others will recognize and acknowledge

as true value.

The project goes on as new ideas and proposals, make the daily life in our school better and more meaningful.

In addition to familiarizing ourselves with our tradition and heritage, we learned something new and had a lot of fun

working together.

And that’s what matters the most!
