A sense of welcoming can be felt as rows of shops and stalls flank the path towards Petaling Street, encouraging a movement pattern that leads towards the embrace of culture.

Humanized scale and proportion of shop

houses encourages the feeling of being welcomed, with entrances and signages located at eye level.

Passerby feels comfortable to approach the shops as they welcome the people with total transparency. Pathways and shop houses have no distinctive barrier which

facilitates shopping activities.

VibrancyBuilding heights differ in rows of shop houses: tall hotels sit inbetween two-story shop houses, inwhich an occasional addition in level is added to some of the shop houses.The inconsistent skyline creates a sense of vibrancy in terms of the randomness in building heights.

Irregular building heights make up an inconsistent skyline, giving a sense of vibrancy which at the same time

creates visual impact to pedestrians as the height of buildings vary along the street.

The vibrancy of colors that make up the façade of the shop houses differ from the traditional white and brown

walls around it, making it a visual attraction which affects movement patterns around it.

Diversity in activities going on at Petaling Street gives a

sense of vibrancy and excitement.

Interconnected pathways leading to various stalls and shops injects energy to the area.

A sense of contrast can be felt when initially approaching Petaling Street due to the placement of modern office buildings in

between old shop houses.

pedestrian-oriented horizontal traditional shop houses gives

pedestrians a sense of closeness to shop houses as it does not overwhelm pedestrians with towering heights.

There is a sense of familiarity as locals approach this street lined with familiar traditional facades of shop houses that reflects the history and culture of Malaysia.
