Mobile Makers iOS App Development High School Program:

Mobile Makers is proud to offer an iOS App Development High School Program. Students will learn how to write code and develop apps for Apple’s mobile platform (iOS) and use real-world tools that working developers use daily (e.g., Xcode, Swift, etc.).

Students completing the course will have the knowledge that makes them both college- and career-ready in the computer science field.

The rigorous, year-long curriculum* includes readings, screencasts, quizzes, instructor slides and domain challenges. (*can be customized to fit school calendars)

Training, Curriculum and Support

The Mobile Makers HS iOS package includes an intensive 2-week teacher training. The program will also contain PD sessions and dedicated learning assistants throughout the school year. All teachers will have access to work with iOS developers, Mobile Makers instructors and alumni for assistance.

Full curriculum suite is available on Canvas (right), and is instructor led. All instructor slides, quizzes, videos, and lesson modules are hosted on the cloud and can be accessed by student and teachers simultaneously.

Computer Science (CS) Education Many schools don’t offer dedicated CS courses. Declining number of students enrolling in CS show less than 1% of students enroll in HS AP CS classes, with only about 2.38% of students graduating with a CS degree.

Funding/Hardware Limitation School districts face fiscal challenges implementing dedicated CS courses; limiting students’ potential in fast-growing field.

Jobs By 2020, over 1.4M computing jobs will need to be filled; w/only 400k students currently in CS courses. *Software developers have an average annual salary of $97,990 (US Dept. of Labor).

Apple App Store App development is a lucrative field. Over 1.2M apps, with over 75B downloads since ‘07. Apple paid $13B+ to developers of iOS apps in 2015.

Computer Science for All President Obama recently announced a new $4B initiative to “empower a generation of American students with the computer science skills they need to thrive in a digital economy.” Visit: whitehouse.gov/
