What is the purpose of a resume?

A Resume:

Is a fact-based, official documentWhat you have/are accomplishing, not what you “plan to”

Should highlight qualifications related to the job

Chronological, functional, combination

Remember: gets a 10 second review by a recruiter

Font styles - Times New Roman, Garamond, Arial

Font sizes between 10-12 (Name can be 16)

Margins @ 0.8 - 1.0”

CAPS, bolding, underlining, italics, bullets

Print on cotton-bond resume paper

One page; significant exp. – two page max

Resume Basics:

Include keywords found in job openings

Use short phrases beginning with action words

Make sure grammar/spelling are correct

Do:

Make your resume tailored for the position

Have a separate .doc for references

Stop by the Career Center for a resume review

Do:

Me, my or I

Periods

Acronyms

Graphics, photos, personal information
