introduced in the mid 1990‘s with the fi rst Lockit box the Lockit family has become an established system for mission critical mobile time code and synchronization tasks and was continuously refi ned.

Based around a very accurate, temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCVCXo) the system can be calibrated in the fi eld to a reference deviation of less than .1ppm. With the newly implemented aCn continuous jam the drift can be brought down to 0. This allows for a synchrony as otherwise only found in studios, however, without hard wiring or relying on problematic rF transmission.

speaking for itself, Lockit units support all smpTe TC modes, including pull up/down and drop rates, time code over asCii, depending on the model miDi TC and the revolutionary ambient Clockit network protocol (aCn).

Within a single motion picture or television production, multiple people from diff erent departments and companies are responsible for accurate and timely processing of fi le based digital video and audio fi les. a comprehensive script workfl ow system the essential element to insure that content is processed accurately, and on schedule. The LockitsCripT workfl ow system is specifi cally designed to incorporate every element within a production script workfl ow to enhance and simplify communication from the set through post production. it can be broken down into 3 diff erent communication components that work together.

The LockitsCripT web access is the basic, free of charge cloud based production service. it is the hub that centralizes communication amongst all production departments.

as the production begins, production information such as the script and call sheets are uploaded to the web access component. scenes are then set up with actors, estimated running times, and so on. This brings us to the second component of LockitsCripT system, the apps: The LockitsCripT script supervisors and the complimentary Tonmeister app for production sound mixers. all preproduction information are synced with the apps by one simple click. The LockitsCripT app is the on-set workcenter for script supervisors and continuity.

The third component to the LockitsCripT system is the ambient Clockit network – for automatic time code and metadata distribution. The aCn is the most sophisticated and accurate time code communication system in the world designed specifi cally to elegantly integrate right into your production environment. as all ambient Lockit devices the aCL 204 provides a rock solid, highly accurate, temperature compensated time code and sync generator. it not only covers all time code rates and sync formats but also allows to apply an off set to the TC output to compensate for the processing delay typical for most HD cameras.

3D camera rigs can be made lighter and neater by utilizing the 2nd TC output and the sync op that can be switched to drive a dual load. The integrated aCn transceiver enables the aCL 204 to work as a fully functional, generator buff ered wireless time code transceiver. even more powerful, the aCn continuous jam feature reduces the drift within the network from 0.1ppm to none at all.

plugged in into a computer, the Lockit transforms into a highly accurate midi Time Code interface with LTC / midi Time Code conversion. This way the aCL 204 opens up the possibility to time code and word clock sync for example multiple cameras with a pro Tools workstation.

Like its bigger brethren, the ”Tiny Lockit“ provides a rock solid, highly accurate, temperature compensating time code generator. except for the sync signal output, it comprises the full functionality of the Lockit, including ambient Clockit network support, auto tuning, wireless jam syncing as well as metadata transfer and logging. Thus the aCn-TL also can be used as fully functional, generator buff ered time code transceiver. This provides the stability of an ambient Lockit generator with the fl exibility of a wireless TC system but without the fear of dropouts. in addition, it also off ers a variable time code output level for recording TC on audio track.

Connected to a computer, the Tiny Lockit transforms into a highly accurate midi time code interface with LTC / midi time code conversion. This way the aCn-TL opens up the possibility to TC sync for example multiple cameras with an e.g. pro Tools workstation.

The second Lemo connector is used for TC or communications and can be confi gured as UsB, rs232, or gp i/o.

The completely revised LeD time code display features double the brightness at less than half of the power consumption of its predecessor. Therefore we could reduce the batteries to only 4 aa cells and still achieve a prolonged battery life.additionally we equipped the new slate with light and motion sensors. Thus the brightness can now be automatically adjusted to the local light situation and the display fl ips when the slate is turned upside down.

The ambient Beetle (aCn-BT) is a Bluetooth dongle that adds versatility to aCn-equipped Lockit devices and the sound Devices 788T. When used with the 788T, it serves as an alternative to the CL-WiFi, and off ers a very reliable wireless connection and low power consumption.

When used with a Lockit device (aCL 204, aCn-TL, aCn-Ls, aCn-mL), the Beetle enables wireless connectivity between the aCn and ios devices. in more detail, the aCn Lockit collects and buff ers time critical metadata with highly accurate timestamp, while the aCn-BT module transmits this non-time critically to the LockitsCripT app.

The ambient Bloutooth dongle (aCn-BT) has a Binder connector, which enables use of diff erent cables for connection to other devices. it has Bluetooth 4.0, or low energy (Le), which works immediately with all recent ios devices consuming less energy while maintaining the bandwidth, and is compatible with older Bluetooth devices. Thanks to the external antenna, range is comparable with WiFi while more robust.

gps-moDULeaCCsi-gpsambient’s gps module has been kept small enough to be stored in the Controller pouch. it comes with a 2 meter cable attached and can be used to derive position data and universal time (UTC) to jam the internal time code generator.

The gps reference signal of one pulse per second can also be used to calibrate the internal reference oscillator. Thus, it is possible to synchronize cameras anywhere worldwide to well under 0.5 frames off set.

CarBon FiBer TUBe pHiLosopHYFor more than 20 years ambient recording has now been producing professional carbon fiber boompoles. The tubes used for our products are not off the shelf items but specially manufactured to our own specification using upscale yet still affordable Hi-Q modulus carbon fibers. This high quality soon made ambient the leading manufacturer for professional booms in many parts of the world.

Due to a special construction using cross windings the heavy duty tube of the Qp series is very strong in compression mode, increasing stiffness and preventing buckling at long extended lengths with excellent strength to weight ratio. This boom won‘t break – contrary to the boom op!

The lighter material used in the QX series is a homogeneous compound of carbon fiber epoxy. This gives an excellent stiffness at minimal weight and a nice surface feel predestining it for eng, TV and studio work.

The all new Qs series boompole is handmade out of pre-preg carbon. Layer by layer it is crafted to be the stiffest and most precise pole on the market. This made the Qs pole the first “premium pole” by ambient recording.

With the Qs we wanted to go one step beyond and construct our masterpiece.

Thus it is handmade out of pre-preg carbon. This is an extremely time-consuming way of production but it gives us the possibility to design the tube characteristics layer by layer. our aim was to create a boom so stiff , lightweight and well balanced that the boom op can control his microphone like a surgeon controls his scalpel but from an 18 feet distance! Besides the tubing we refashioned the screw locks for better grip when working with gloves. The result we achieved is nothing less than the stiff est, most precise boom on the market that can truly be called the best pole we ever built.

The modular extension Qp 120 can quickly be added as a 5th segment and gives an extra boost of length for wide, large crowd shots without the weight when not in use. With an outer diameter of 35 mm the extension will also fi t into a standard manfrotto pivot clamp allowing stand mounted.

These booms were designed for tripod-mounted operation and by using our Quickpole multilayer carbon fi ber tubes with an increased oD up to 40 mm they can be extended to more than 10 meters. Various accessories are obtainable for mounting the booms on light stands with pivoting clamp and counterweights.

By extending the stand they can be used to place microphones up to 12 meters high above ground level in recording situations as studio, classical music, church organ, feature fi lm crowd scenes and also for surround recordings with the a-raY. Jumbo booms have also been used to carry small cameras, lights, measuring equipment or aerials.

The booms can be internally cabled and a special tip permits to even pass multicore cables as used for multichannel recordings. The end is fi tted with a slotted tube, ring and carabineer for attaching a counter weight.

This unique, portable microphone support allows the user to place 5 microphones (6th center surround arm optional available) at distances from 50 cm to over 2 meters apart in diff erent confi gurations.

The construction uses a central rectangular axis, telescopic arms and special sliding nodes with toothed fl anges and quick release skewers that provide fast and easy set up. By arranging the nodes in plane or perpendicular it is possible to create well known multiple microphone confi gurations like Decca Tree and others as well as experimental 3D arrays. The experimental character is emphasized by the possibility of adding more nodes to achieve setups with 7, 8 or 9 microphones. made of aluminum and carbon fi ber the a-raY is at the same time light and very strong and folds down to a small package that can be stowed away in the included carrying pouch.

The ambient QuickLok quick release tip for microphone assemblies is the fi rst snap connection noise-free enough to allow for professional boom action and similar applications.

The body of the QuickLok mounts onto the 3/8” thread of a microphone boom or stand and is secured in place via a grub screw. The tip fi ts into the mic support and can be tightened securely using a screwdriver or similar through a cross hole. The ingenious mechanism with tapered design provides a rigid, absolutely rattle free joint and has a self-locking and self-locating action.

This universal piece will fi nd its place for quick disassembly of rigs, microphones, antennas and more not only on location, but also in music recording studios.

The aTe 208 emesser is a very small ”fi gure-of-eight“ microphone intended to convert any boom mic on the fl y into a m/s stereo system.Featuring a high quality 48 V ph powered real condenser capsule, it delivers an enhanced dynamic range required for critical recordings.

The aTe 208 set comes complete with mounting clip and Y-loom, which outputs both m and s signals in a standard balanced 5-pin XLr. including all the necessary accessories and allowing continued use of the existing shotgun mic, suspension and windshield it off ers a very economic solution for those who don‘t want to part with their favored shotgun to go stereo. Due to the m/s technology and the same mic being used for dialogue and ambience recordings seamless transitions between mono and stereo are feasible without alteration of the sound characteristics. The asF-1 is completely designed and manufactured by ambient recording in response all the requests for a professional-quality, yet aff ordable hydrophone designed specifi cally for use with standard audio gear. many professional video cameras are equipped with a V-mount battery terminal. But only few also off er a possibility for slide-in radio receivers. The ambient V-sLoT chassis provides the solution: mounted between the camera and battery supply, the power is looped through to the camera, simultaneously powering the receiver. Here the common V-mount system is being used, adaptation to other systems like e.g. anton Bauer are possible with standard adaptor panels.

The V-sLoT can be used with all receivers equipped with a Unislot connector (25-pin D-sub). To off er highest fl exibility, a Ta5m jack is attached at the bottom, off ering two balanced outputs for dual receivers. This way dangling cables become a relic of the past due to customizable cables for every camera type.

Thanks to the ambient V-sLoT every V-mount equipped camera can be transformed into a compact eng camera system.The slot will be delivered with standard adaptor cable VsL-2X3.
