Brushwood Fencing
Natural... Renewable... Durable... Beautiful... Environmentally friendly brushwood fencing is handmade on site using Australian
'Melaleuca Uncinata', specially imported from interstate. Stunning in appearance and
very durable, Melaleuca is a salt hardy bush providing high durability and a natural
barrier against insect and ant attack.
Brushwood fencing instantly transforms any garden or courtyard area into a stunning
natural landscape. Brushwood fencing is popular in homes, townhouses, villas,
resorts and has even been featured on television renovation shows including 'Garden
Makeover' and 'Backyard Blitz'. Don't spend a fortune on your landscaping without
starting with the fence!
The high salt content provides long lasting protection against the Australian
elements making this fencing suitable for pool surrounds and enclosures or salt
exposed areas.
Brushwood fencing is installed on a solid galvanised steel frame that will last up to
40 years, making this fencing very strong and suitable for high wind areas.

Brushwood is ideal for difficult shapes and can be installed level, stepped, raked or
curved to suit any landscape. It can also be used for screens up to 3 metres high!
Compacted on site by our team of specially trained installers, trimmed and topped
with a bound capping, the soft, natural appearance of brush fencing and screens can
make small courtyard areas feel much larger and less confining - and also rates
highly an acoustic barrier!
Chemical and preservative free, brush fencing can be installed in soil or solid rock
foundations, and can include openings, driveway and pedestrian and gates. All Day
Fencing also install thatched huts, pergolas and gazebos.
How is my fence constructed?
All Day Fencing import large quantities of brushwood, directly from farmers and
contract cutters. Our brushwood is stored in drying facilities for up to six weeks
before being transported to your job for erection by our team of specially trained
installers.

Tea-tree Fencing & Screens
Natural... Renewable... Durable... Beautiful...
Environmentally friendly Tea Tree fencing brings the Australian bush into your
backyard! Tea Tree fences are constructed using large random sized sticks fixed to
treated pine rails and galvanised steel posts for maximum durability.
Tea Tree fencing
Tea Tree fencing is suitable for short runs and feature walls and is a favourite
amongst architects, landscapers and developers looking for something different. The
high oil content of Tea Tree helps to preserve the fence without the addition of
chemicals. Tea Tree fencing is suitable for high wind and salt exposed areas.
The high oil content provides long lasting protection against the Australian elements
and helps to make this fencing suitable for pool surrounds, enclosures or salt
exposed areas.

Tea tree fencing is installed using 50mm x 50mm galvanised steel posts with 3
horizontal treated pine rails that will last up to 40 years! The use of steel posts (only
visible from one side), makes this fencing very strong and suitable for high wind
areas.

Paling Fences
Paling fences are designed primarily as an economical choice for dividing or
boundary fences. Paling fences can be built from hardwood or treated pine and can
be installed using treated pine or galvanised steel posts.
TREATED PINE HARDWOOD
Paling fences come in three main varieties, standard, lapped or lap ‘n’ cap.
In the construction of a standard paling fence, the palings are butted up against
each other leaving a small gap that grows as the timber dries out and shrinks.
Lapped fences have two layers of palings overlayed to prevent a visible gap
occurring. A lap’n’cap fence has a rebated capping that sits over the top of the
palings and nails to the top rail.
STEEL POSTS LAP’N’CAP
9
Treated pine fences over 1.5m high are installed using three horizontal rails to
prevent warping of the palings. All Day Fencing strongly advise the use of 50mm
square galvanised steel posts when installing treated pine fences as timber posts
tend to bend or twist. Steel posts are set 600mm into the ground with a concrete
base for strength and stability.
Hardwood fencing is supplied in random colours from deep red to light grey's which
will turn a grey colour as they age. The high oil content of hardwood helps preserve
the timber without chemicals as long as it does not come into contact with soil.
Supplied raw, these fences can be stained or painted if desired, but are usually best
left in the raw to weather with the natural landscape.
Hardwood fences installed on galvanised steel posts can last over 25 years with little
or no maintenance - and are strong enough to support light vegetation and small
vines!

Decorative Picket Fencing
Picket fences, properly designed to enhance the features in your home, can add
considerable value to your property. All Day Fencing can custom build your picket
fencing and gates from your plans or from our design!
Picket fences can incorporate entrance arbors and pergolas (shown above) for looks,
or to provide shelter for visitors. Standard picket fences range from affordable to
medium price and represent a major change in the properties street appeal which
can result in increased property values.
Picket fences are generally recommended for front boundaries but can be returned
down the side fence lines to the front wall of the building. You can design and cost
your picket fence from the illustrations and prices posted on our website:
www.alldayfencing.com.au
Fence posts should be spaced between 2.0 and 2.4 metres apart or less if required.
Posts should be 600mm longer than the height of the fence to concrete into the
ground, and an extra post is required beside all gates and openings.
Some pickets come in pre-cut shapes the most common pictured below. Custom
picket shapes can be supplied at cost.
Posts decorations can be added to the top of square timber posts. The most common
are pictured below.
Picket fencing is made using LOSP (light organic solvent preservative) treated and
primed timber for ease of construction and durability.
LOSP consists of preservatives dissolved in solvent and impregnated into the timber
to prevent rotting, giving the timber durability in above-ground exterior applications.
11
LOSP pre-priming is designed to temporarily protect the timber from weather and UV
degradation, as well as soiling during construction.
Custom made posts can be cut and supplied to match your house or existing fencing.
Picket fencing can be installed level, stepped or on the rake. If the fence is to be
stepped, the height of the step must also be added to the height of the post.
Picket fences can also be installed between brick or stone piers, or designed as
part of a pergola or gazebo. The following brick and reconstituted stone piers can
be incorporated into your picket fence design.
12
Pickets can be arranged in shaped bays that can also be reflected in the gate design.

Horizontal Slat Fencing Modernise your home with our range of timber horizontal slat fencing and screens.
Slat screen fences can dramatically transform your home. Manufactured from either
treated and primed timber or hardwood, and fixed to steel posts, slat fencing is
strong and guaranteed for 7 years from the date of installation.
42mm x 18mm 92mm x 18mm
Slat screen fencing provides privacy while retaining good looks. Available in a range
of timbers and sizes, slat screen fences can be stained or painted. Slat screen panels
are ideal for use both as internal and external features and can be fitted to
pergolas, gazebo's, decks or wherever you might imagine.
Slat screen fencing comes in three common slat sizes which can be spaced at any
desired distance depending on privacy or light requirements. They can be supplied
and installed primed and ready for the top coat. It can be painted stained or oiled
and can be made to fit any situation. Slat fencing is fixed to galvanised steel posts to
ensure the slats always appear straight and true. They can also be fitted over
existing walls and structures.
14
Slat screen fences can be constructed from treated pine, primed treated pine
(LOSP) or hardwood. Some recommended timbers suitable for slat fences are
shown below.
Merbou Blackbutt W R Cedar LOSP
LOSP consists of preservatives dissolved in solvent and impregnated into the timber
to prevent rotting, giving the timber durability in above-ground exterior applications.
LOSP pre-priming is designed to temporarily protect the timber from weather and UV
degradation, as well as soiling during construction.
Horizontal slat fences can be installed between timber, brick or stone piers, or
designed as part of a pergola or gazebo. In fact, horizontal slat panels can be
manufactured to fit most areas.
For large projects, slat screens can be manufactured off-site reducing on-site labour
and overall costs. Slat fences can be lined on both sides if required. The slat
spacings can be widened and offset to allow light while maintaining privacy.
Custom slat screens can be manufactured to your design and specifications.

Balustrades & Handrails A more formal look for decorative timber fence is to incorporate a handrail and sill.
The handrail helps to protect the end-grain of the pickets from the weather and is
suited to Federation or Victorian style homes. The pickets are often thicker and
decorated with handcut pattens.
Handrail and fence design of this era often used large locally grown hardwoods,
carefully dried and protected with lead based primer and paint. Today we have the
advantage of the use of LOSP (light organic solvent preservative) treated and primed
timber for ease of construction and durability.
LOSP consists of preservatives dissolved in solvent and impregnated into the timber
to prevent rotting, giving the timber durability in above-ground exterior applications.
LOSP pre-priming is designed to temporarily protect the timber from weather and UV
degradation, as well as soiling during construction.
LOSP is milled into handrails and sills (bottom rails) for strength and durability.
Standard timber sizes can be used as balusters (pickets). They can be mixed with
decorative laser-cut pickets as shown below.
16
Custom made balustrades can be made to suit existing properties or built to new
requirements. Balusters can be cut to form pattens as shown below.
Posts can be cut to finish under the handrail or built to protrude through the
handrail. Posts that extend through the handrail can be finished with turned or
banded tops.
Balustrades can be installed between timber posts, verandah posts, brick or
stone piers, or designed as part of a pergola or gazebo.

Timber Gates PALING GATES
Timber paling gates are constructed using a timber ‘Z’ frame, and are constructed
from timber fence palings in either standard, lapped or lap’n’cap styles. They are
hung using galvanised hinges and a fence latch or barrel bolt is fitted.
Z FRAMED PANEL GATE WITH HARDWOOD PALINGS
TIMBER PANEL GATES
Timber panel gates are constructed using a treated and primed tongue and groove
board fixed to either a timber ‘Z’ frame or fixed to a galvanised steel frame. A steel
frame is recommended for high traffic areas.
Panel gates can be cut to a shape such as a curved top. They are stronger, have a
smooth finish and the timber used is primed ready for painting.
SOLID TIMBER GATES
Solid timber gates are manufactured individually to create a unique look to compliment your
home.
18
Solid timber gates are manufactured using pre-primed and dressed treated pine, and are
assembled with waterproof glues. All gates can be manufactured to sliding or swing
configuration.

Retaining Walls Retaining walls may look like simple stacked stone, block, or timber. But in fact,
they're carefully engineered systems that wage an ongoing battle with gravity. They
restrain tons of saturated soil that would otherwise slump and slide away from a
foundation or damage the surrounding landscape.
Retaining walls are designed to compliment the landscape as well as providing
structural strength and drainage solutions. These handsome barriers also make
inviting spots to sit, and can increase usable yard space by terracing sloped
properties, something that is increasingly important as flat home sites become ever
more scarce in many regions.
Along with sloped landscapes where water runoff causes hillside erosion, ideal
locations for a retaining wall include spots downhill from soil fault lines and where
the downhill side of a foundation is losing supporting soil or its uphill side is under
pressure from sliding soil.
Various soil loads and pressures require different treatment depending on the
position of the retaining wall, the load it is designed to take and the use of materials
in its construction.
Treated Pine retaining walls are the cheaper alternative providing the soil that is to
be retained, and hence the soil pressure, is minimal. Brick retaining walls and
stacked concrete or stone block are stronger than treated pine and offer a choice of
attractive finishes.
22
Treated Pine Log or Slab Design
Treated Pine retaining walls are simple to construct and fairly cost efficient. They are
suitable for uses where there is a low soil pressure up to a height of 600mm.
Drainage must be installed to the rear of the wall. Posts should be dug to a depth of
600mm minimum (depending on the foundation composition), and be concreted into
footings measuring 400mm x 400mm wide.

Brick and concrete footing designs
Brick retaining walls are considerably stronger than treated pine, however tree roots
can cause the brickwork to crack. Brick retaining walls should be built with a
thickness relevant to the height required, and should contain ‘brick tor’ (a wire
reinforcement for mortar) to combat movement. A guide is shown in the illustration
below. Drainage and weed matting must be installed to the rear of the wall with
weep holes to allow the water to escape during heavy rain, and to keep tree roots
clear of the wall.

Core filled concrete block and concrete footings
The typical construction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall makes use of hollow
concrete blocks. The concrete blocks are designed to take steel reinforcement bars
both horizontally and vertically, and be core-filled with concrete to complete the
structure. Block are available in widths of 150mm, 200mm and 250mm to suit
different applications.
With all retaining walls the design and construction of the footings are an integral
part of the structure, providing

A retaining wall that is required to hold significant soil pressure should be
constructed from reinforced concrete or core filled concrete block. In some situations
it is advisable for a structural engineer to custom design a solution.
