Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious medical condition that causes functional, psychological and socioeconomic disorder. Long-term secondary medical complications are common in patients with SCI, which further negatively impact on patients’ functional independence, quality of life and life expectancy. Therefore, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of chronic secondary complications in patients with SCI is critical for limiting these complications, improving survival, community participation and health-related quality of life. The purpose of this session is to provide an overview of risk factors, signs, symptoms, prevention and treatment approaches for secondary long-term complications in patients with SCI.
Speaker: Dr Jan Gawronski, Consultant & Clinical Lead, London Spinal Cord Injury Centre

How to make working in a solicitors’ office less stressful in the 21st century…
and more fun!Solicitors’ offices are stressful places. Nearly 70% of solicitors are said to suffer high levels of stress. This seminar will look at the causes of stress in the office and at ways it can be reduced.
Richard Barr has been writing about life in the office for legal journals for many decades and has himself been through (and survived) numerous stressful situations. He will be sharing his sometimes bizarre experiences gleaned from nearly 50 years in legal practice and offering some conventional (and sometimes unconventional) solutions.
Topics covered will include: difficult partners, clients from hell, how to cope with your cockups, office parties, office love affairs, alcohol, snowball fights and of course harassment.
His aim will be to show that for all its downsides, working in the law can and should be fun and fulfilling.

Trial bundles
Preparing for trial can be daunting!! Over the years, trial bundles have been criticised by the courts from broken lever arch files, for the documentation included, and most recently in the prorogation of parliament appeals, we saw counsel having to add numbering to each of his pages where his paginated copy of the bundle did not match the others!
Whilst a beautifully prepared bundle will not win a bad case, a poorly prepared bundle can damage a good case.
Therefore getting bundles right is an important step in the preparation for trial.
