The University of Colorado’s Health and Wellness Center is a 94,000 SF state-of-the-art facility on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The facility was designed to foster a culture of sustainable healthy lifestyles, recreation, personal training, and holistic wellness.
Designed in an ‘L’ shape derived from challenging site constraints, the building takes advantage of a centrally located core with a welcoming entrance lobby that orients and connects wellness-based research activity throughout four levels of integrated programs.
Included in the building is a Fit Lab, labs for exercise testing, body composition and a body dexa lab as well as a metabolic kitchen and classrooms to support this well regarded research and teaching program.
A dynamic nutrition lab and bistro anchors the ground floor. A two-story volume contains fitness and group exercise spaces as well as the track. A third floor holistic wellness lounge, adjacent to a roof garden featuring mountain views of Colorado, supports all programs.

ANSCHUTZ HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
The Norlin Library Information Commons project was approximately 43,000 SF of renovation and remodel work on four floors of the library on the CU Boulder campus. The main goal was to comprehensively modernize and improve an aging facility and to renovate the existing first floor reference area into a 24/7 learning commons. This included various study areas, a computer classroom, group study areas, a coffee bar with light food service, writing center and associated offices. The space integrates up-to-date technology with a progressive furniture layout in an open environment. The project was designed to foster and enhance the learning experience for students.
A new addition of approximately 330 SF was added to the southeast corner on the first floor, adjacent the new coffee bar/café, providing integration with the existing outdoor plaza. The new construction consisted of stone, clay tile roof, aluminum windows, limestone and precast and was completed in multiple phases while the building was fully occupied. As a result of the strategic integration of content, technology, and services in the new space, a fuller range of student learning and discovery has been realized. Norlin Commons is now a place for students, faculty, and staff to access many of the academic services they need in one common space.

NORLIN LIBRARY INFORMATION COMMONS
The Alpine Campus Center is sited on a mountain that overlooks downtown Steamboat Springs. One of the challenges for this project was to make the Alpine Campus more accessible and easier to navigate. The new building design includes a bridge element that connects an upper terrace to a lower terrace, providing covered vertical circulation between key buildings on a campus that receives 400 inches of snow annually every winter. In addition the curved south facade offers panoramic views of Steamboat Springs. The design also incorporates outdoor plazas and decks to create outdoor gathering spaces for students and staff.
The design character of this new building is critical to the campus. It serves as a visible landmark to draw attention to the identity of the campus. It also provides stunning views to the natural beauty of the area. The use of native stone and glass provides a fit within the landscape of the mountain community while maintaining the tight budget. The building design represents a natural but modern look.
