Pressing on Toward the Goal—Going for GOLD

The summer Olympic Games for 2016 will begin in Rio

de Janeiro, Brazil on the 5th August, then the Summer

Paralympic Games will begin on September 7th.

Paul, the Apostle, wrote in his letter to the Philippians:

‘I run towards the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven.

This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done.’

Philippians 3 v 14 (CEV).

Paul encourages us, as followers of Jesus, to live our lives

as though we are in a race, a long distance race, rather

than a sprint. The race is run ‘in Christ’, till at the final

judgment we are with Christ in heaven.

We are to always look to Jesus, to worship and live for

God, to serve and support others, to press on, to keep

going, to go for GOLD. Going for:

G: Gratitude and Grace—to discover joy through saying thank you to God every

day for the undeserved love and kindness God shows to us through Jesus, His

Son, who died for us.

O: Overcoming Obstacles—we can put our trust in God, have confidence in His

goodness and find strength to face what’s happening now and tomorrow.

L: Love—love God and love each other.

D: Discipleship—to be disciples and make disciples—to live in the ways of God,

becoming more like Christ, to love and serve others and to tell others about

Jesus, our Saviour. (Have a look at Matthew 28 vs 19, 20)

Fellowship News

We give thanks to God for our friend Doreen Cullen who died on 13th July 2016.

Doreen’s first love and commitment was to Jesus, her Saviour. She had a commitment

to see people come to faith and know Jesus. Doreen and her husband, Bill, both loved

being part of this Fellowship. As a couple they lived and served God in Papua New

Guinea for many years. Doreen faced each day with courage, grace and dignity. Please

continue to pray for Doreen’s family and friends.

Please pray for members of the Fellowship who have been bereaved, may they know

God’s peace and comfort at this time.

Please continue to pray for those who are unwell and have different ongoing health

issues—Debs, Marian, Russell.

Congratulations to Annette who became a Grandmother again and Matthew, an Uncle.

Our theme for 2016 is, ‘a living hope through Jesus - let’s share hope.’ We will look at

Daniel and the minor prophets.

ALSO, as nations of the world come together to compete at the Olympics and Paralympics, let us pray for peace in our world where there is so much conflict, violence, terrorism. These acts prompt us to pray, to ask for, to seek change, not just of minds, procedure, policy but change of heart. May there be a turning to Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who is our living hope.
