The French company POMA—inventor of the very first surface lifts—has become one of the major players in ropeway transportation and will be celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2016.
We invent and build transportation that puts smooth and sustainable mobility at the heart of the urban, snow, tourism, science and industrial transportation sectors. We keep sustainable development at the forefront of our technology, providing both safe and eco-friendly transportation.
Our success is also that of the men and women at POMA who constantly strive to reach higher summits and meet the technical and environmental challenges offered by nature. Just like builders, our teams are constructing the future of transportation using innovative and groundbreaking technology.
Our indomitable and innovative spirit has brought us to the four corners of the world — where we have created and installed over 8,000 ropeways in 80 years.Every hour in London, New York City, Rio, Tianmenshan, Hong Kong and Courchevel, our installations carry over 6.5 million people who ski, go to work, visit a recreational park or tourist site and take a plane. Other more industrial installations carry iron, gold, cement, bauxite and many other minerals.
In 2016, POMA will be inaugurating one of their most emblematic installations: the i360 in Brighton (England), which is the highest vertical observation tower in the world.
POMA is in constant motion, adapting to what the future holds for transportation.

SnowPOMA has been a pioneer in cable transportation solutions since 1936.
The inventor of the fixed-grip surface lift and the first detachable grip has been providing skiers
and mountain lovers with smooth and sustainable mobility in the heart of the snowy mountains for
over 80 years.
From the Vanoise Express in the Alps to the slopes in Russia for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic
Games, POMA climbs mountain ranges with high-performance, fast, silent and ecological aerial
ropeways. POMA invents installations with clean lines that blend into the environment,
and innovative carriers that are comfortable and accessible to all with panoramic views
to take full advantage of the natural surroundings.
UrbanWhether you need to connect an island to a megalopolis, travel on an air cushion between airport
terminals, connect suburban districts to the city centre, fly over a river, ascend to the top of a
mountain, or replace a road, bus line or ferry... POMA sets cable transportation as the new means
of public transportation and reduces the impact of transportation on the environment.
In the heart of the urban jungle, from New York City to Rio de Janeiro, POMA innovates and installs
customised, eco-efficient solutions providing smooth, sustainable mobility.
Tourism User-friendly, fun, original and spectacular: POMA installations bring tourism to a new level.
POMA meets every challenges and imagines the solutions: visit a natural park in an ecological
funicular railway, experience indoor skiing surrounded by desert in Dubai, take a ride in a
recreational park, connect a city to a leisure area, connect an island resort by gondola, and
discover London from a capsule on the London Eye. In 2014, POMA installs the cabins for the
tallest observation wheel in the world in Las Vegas. The big wheel, called the “High Roller” is
550 feet (168 meters) high. POMA stations and carriers have that rare capacity to blend into the
environment and surrounding architecture. They are entirely adaptable and can be configured to
meet the specific requirements of each project.

Science & IndustryPOMA designs and installs high-tech cabins and funicular railways, high-performance cable cranes
and Flyingbelts®. New technology research centres, large-scale engineering structures, gold
and mineral mines and some of the most impressive hydro-electric dams in the world take full
advantage of our technology that withstands some of the most extreme conditions in the world.
MiniMetro®
Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami, Frankfurt, Perugia, Zurich, and Cairo have already chosen comfortable
and reliable transportation with a very low environmental impact. Bringing our several decades
of experience in the cable transportation industry, we at POMA have become the world-wide
leader in urban cable transportation thanks to our MiniMetro® system.
The POMA MiniMetro® at the Cairo International Airport revolutionises the world of transportation
through the carrier’s air cushion technology, also known as Air Levitation Technology.
This innovative system has proven to be one of the best solutions in smooth mobility.
Our technology makes it possible for the carrier to slide along the track with almost no friction,
thus reducing energy consumption during the trip. Fewer vibrations and reduced noise ensure
optimal comfort for passengers.
EntertainmentThe POMA Group is a shining star in the entertainment sector. Our secret recipe? Mixing passion
and innovation to provide passengers with thrilling sensations.
In London, thanks to our close collaboration with our subsidiaries, the POMA Group met a new
challenge: the creation and installation of the oval capsules for the London Eye, the Great Wheel
created for the transition to the Year 2000. The 32 capsules are equipped with air-conditioning,
and can hold up to 25 passengers for a ride aboard the most famous tourist attraction in Great
Britain. In Las Vegas, the POMA Group met another incredible challenge: designing, manufacturing
and installing the cabins for the world’s largest Great Wheel. Reaching 168 meters high, the
High Roller has become the main attraction of the City of Lights. The POMA Group, and our
exceptionally efficient coordination with subsidiaries, designed, manufactured and installed the
28 panoramic, customized, spherical cabins. Each capsule is equpped with 8 TV screens and can
carry 40 passengers for a 45-minute ride in the dreamlike Las Vegas skyline.
The POMA Group is currently building the highest observation tower in the world in Brighton,
Great Britain. It will reach a height of 138 m.

Operation and maintenanceFor our local and international clients, POMA provides maintenance and operation contracts to
ensure continuous operation of our installations every day of the year. If our customers wish,
we also recruit, train and provide teams dedicated 100% to the maintenance of our installations.
In order to adequately respond to the growing operational and maintenance needs of the
increasingly sophisticated equipment we build, POMA has created a new service: maintenance
engineering.
The analysis of maintenance monitoring permits precise definition of the best maintenance
policies for the installation: preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance with vibration
analysis systems, drafting maintenance plans adapted to each device, and providing data for the
computer maintenance management software (CMMS).

POMA’s priorities, in order to safeguard our projects and patents.
At POMA, innovations are shared and maintained throughout all of
the Group’s activities and subsidiaries. Our R&D Department has
30 employees who regularly travel into the field.
We have been an international company since our beginning,
innovating all over the world in urban environments and within
difficult weather and landscape surroundings — where innovation is
essential.

Our customers’ dreams propel our innovationEach POMA installation in the world is unique. Rio, Nizhny Novgorod,
New York City, or Paradiski in the heart of the French Alps: innovation and
technology are the foundation for each one of our installations so that we can
better respond to our customers’ needs.
The funicular railway link — known as the “Blanc Blanc” — at the French
Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in Grenoble, France,
is the perfect example. Totally revolutionary and unique in the world, the
exterior automatic funicular railway connects several clean rooms within the
scientific park in Grenoble. Equipped with a clean air shower, it is sealed and
moves within a controlled environment. It carries researchers and their ultra-
sensitive micro-electronic components.
The environment forges innovationPOMA is acutely aware of environmental problems, and we do everything
to make sure that our installations have the least impact possible.
Nothing is left to chance: study phases before development, analyses
of equipment and material life cycles, certification, cabin design, power
supply, etc. POMA is the world leader of cable transport systems in urban
environments, and we work hard to reduce pollution, and any possible visual or
auditory irritants that can possibly occur.

POMA Ambassador
Marie Bochet, POMA ambassadorGreat meetings lead to great stories! Christian Bouvier, Vice Chairman
of the Poma Executive Board confirms: “Our meeting and subsequent
collaboration occurred naturally. Marie shares POMA’s simple values
and enthusiastic attitude toward life. We are all men and women who
are infused with the mountain culture -- profound and solid values
stem from the demanding mountain conditions. We must be strong
100% of the time. Marie is the perfect incarnation of these values.
But well beyond that, the story of her life and how she became a
champion has made her a role model for everyone, and illustrates how
strong will, courage and hard work lead to excellence”.
An exceptional champion
Marie comes from Beaufortain in the Savoie area. She was born with agenesis - a birth
defect which involved her forearm and left hand. She began skiing at the Saisies Sports
Club and then at the Arêches-Beaufort Ski Club, and right from the start practised
alongside able-bodied skiers. She immediately created a sensation!
In 2010 she took part in her first Paralympic Games. Although she did not win in
Vancouver, three years later -- after intensive training -- she gained success.
At just 19 years old, during the 2013 Handiski World Championships, Marie Bochet won
everything: 5 world titles!
Last winter, at the Sochi Paralympic Games, she achieved supreme recognition: 4 Gold
medals, one each in Downhill, Super Giant Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super Combined. This
is a tremendous personal and historical achievement!
Marie comments: “My motivation is still incredibly strong... I want to surpass myself each
time I compete, and commit myself to bringing hope to all disabled persons. I want to
show them how sports can help promote personal development”.
Our POMA ambassador, who bears the colours of French excellence proudly, kept her five
World Champion titles during the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, which were held
from March 4 to 10, 2015, in the Canadian ski resort Panorama.

Kuelap or the fortress of the people in the clouds Perched at an altitude of 3,070
metres, the Kuelap fortress is
one of the most ancient and
mysterious archaeological sites
in Peru. It lies 72 km to the south-
east of the city of Chachapoyas,
the capital city of the Amazonas area. It was discovered by the outside world in 1843
and is one of the most important archaeological monuments in South America. It was
built around the 10th Century AD by the pre-Inca Chachapoyas tribe, in a wild area, on
the Amazonian highlands. The citadel covers about 6 hectares and includes 420 circular
buildings, the most important of them being the dungeon and the castle.
Its observation tower offers an incredible panoramic view of the surroundings.
The site will soon become one of the major tourist destinations of the country, thanks to
the gondola lift POMA is constructing.
18 million dollars are to be invested in this new gondola lift.
The only way to access the Kuelap fortress at present is by taking a long, unpaved road
from the village of Nuevo Tingo. Developing tourism in northern Peru -- particularly in the
Amazonas area -- and increasing the number of visitors to the fortress are major stakes
for the Peruvian state. This necessitates providing an easier, safer, faster access to the
site whilst preserving its environment.
In order to win this market, POMA combined forces with the Peruvian company Ingenieros
Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A. (ICCGSA), a Peruvian leader in the engineering and
building sectors for over 50 years. Together they created the Consorcio Telecabinas
Kuelap consortium. As well as being in charge of the construction of the gondola lift, the
Consorcio Telecabinas Kuelap consortium holds the concession for the maintenance and
operation of the gondola lift for the coming 20 years.
