IDEA

My idea:Is about stray shopping carts...

THEN Shopping carts were initially designed to carry goods/groceries from the supermarket to the car.

NOW Carts are often used to transport purchases or any kind of goods. Afterwards theyare abandoned by the costumers in public spaces. They are called stray shopping carts.

WHO & WHY

Ed, landscaper

We have two children and no

car. We take carts to carry our

shopping to our home once or

twice a week.

Jasmin, kindergarten teacher

I have a car, but carrying plates,

salads, etc to our regular family

meetings is more practical and

cheaper with a cart.

k.di lib is a free urban mobility service for goods. It is similar to bikesharing (eg. Cycle Hire, vélib') systems but with carts in order to allow anyone in a city to transport goods without depending on a car.

Foster synergiesIt fosters synergies among the different stakeholders and improves the lifequality of a city and its neighborhoods. More interaction and cohesion make thema more pleasant and lively place.

Community buildingAn actively used public space is an important part of community building because it creates trust and thereby a sense of belonging to a local community.Lively public spaces will in general be less damaged, which has positive short and long term impact.

Decrease of emissionsUsing carts via a service system means less cars moving around and a decrease of emissions.

Enable social interactionIt is social: Instead of driving from point A to point B with few communicationopportunities, kd.i lib’ enables social interaction in public spaces. Nobody has to interact, but at least he/she can (meet, exchange, listen, etc).

Ideas are like walls:My Master Degree Project was the first brick...

A first award:This was the trigger...

Another idea:Mathieu Grosche’s HopHopHop is an instant carpooling service with an alternative currency: the Commons.

What helps

MediaIn the digital age you can quite easily communicate your ideas and concepts and others can spread the news and discuss about it.

NetworksMeet new people, learn about other points of view

Innovative placesLiving and working in innovative cities is an advantage: meeting companies, city representatives, etc is easier and innovative hubs (like co-working spaces, cultural institutions),.. accessible.

Friends & FamilyIt might sound cheesy but it is important to feel backed up.

Difficulties

DesignDesign often is associated with...

InvestmentTarget the right type of investment is difficult.Even more when the social outcome of a project is important.

ConceptFinding investments for concepts that (still) need to be redefined is even more difficult.
