Meeting with SFIF - ITRA Presentation I 25th May 2016 4
A discipline in full development
Number of risks:• Security: inability to set up a security plan (e.g. the Ultra Fiord 2016) or security
system (e.g. the drama of the Mercantour in 2009) in relation to weather related hazards, lack of vounteers (e.g. the UTHK 2016), inability to manage abandonments...
• Health: doping, miltiplication of races for runners, risk of injury and poor knowledge of risks inherent to the pratice.
Necessary for the public authorities and players on the ground to get involved in the development of the discipline.
Involve the economic players in the sport without letting them decide upon the future of the discipline.

Simply by sending in their GPS tracks, the ITRA route evaluation service allows:
1. Route certification:• In terms of the distance and ascent / descent2. Identification of route characteristics:• Evaluation of the endurance difficulties : ITRA Points• Evaluation of difficulty the mountains : Mountain level• Evaluation of a runner’s capacity to finish a race: Finisher CriteriaNota: The ITRA points, like the Mountain level, can be used by any organisation wishing to set up, at registration, a selection based on experience. By having their route evaluated, the organisation permits all participants the possibility of seeing the number of ITRA points or Mountain level which has been attributed to it. Numerous ultra races have resorted to this system to limit their registration numbers. E.g. theUTMB, Lavaredo, UTMF…Nota 2: Concerning the UTMB, it is necessary to contact the organisation in order to be on the UTMB list of qualifying races. It is automatic for other organisations.
