When was the first light bulb invented?•Thomas Edison created the first light

bulb in 1879.•BUT, Humphrey Davy created the first

light in 1800.

Who invented the first light bulb?

•Humphrey Davy created the first light using an arc lamp.

•The arc lamp took to much power for use in residential houses.

•They use arc lamps in lighthouses because they are super bright.

•Edison bought the idea of the light bulb from to inventors and patented it.

What materials were originally used to make the light bulb?

•Humphrey Davy connected wires to a battery and a piece of coal, which made an intense spark. This became known as the electric arc lamp.

• Thomas Edison then used a filament housed in a glass vacuum bulb. He then passed electricity through this which lit the bulb.

How was Edison’s light bulb originally made?

•Edison used a carbon filament that burned for forty hours.

•The carbon filament was put in an oxygen-less glass bulb.

What improvements to the light bulb have been made over the years?

• 1920s-1930s:Adjustable power beam bulbs, fluorescent lighting, and one time flash bulbs.

• 1940s-1950s: Halogen and infrared light, and the first light emitting diode (LED).

• 1960s: The increase in the efficiency and capacity of LED technology.

• The Late 20th and Early 21st Centuries: The first full spectrum and near-full spectrum light bulbs.

Why were such improvements made?• 1920’s-1930’s: Most improvements were made

mainly to improve photography technology• 1940’s-1950’s: Improvements made to invent

the first LED lights.• 1960’s: Improvements to the LED light bulbs

and flash lights to make them more efficient.• The late twentieth and early 21’st centuries:

Improvements made to be more eco-friendly and better the marketing of full spectrum incandescent light bulbs.
