Introduction
Bow got its name from its location at the “bow,” orbend of the Merrimack River
Founded in 1727 to decrease the population
pressures on the seacoast
For most settlers, farming was a way of life
Agricultural land was marked by stone walls which
are still apparent throughout the town
The hub of the town was referred to as “Bow Millsand was fueled and powered by local waterways

Notable Residents
Sergeant John Ordway: a native of Bow was an influentialmember of the Lewis and Clark expedition in the early1800’s
Mary Baker Eddy: born and raised in bow was the founderof the Christian Science Church
