There are different places in the cities nowadays

CHURCH CLOTHES SHOP BUTCHER´S

PET SHOP SWEETS SHOP

BUS STATION TRAIN STATION

MONUMENTS TOY SHOP

SUPERMARKET BAKERY

But, in the Prehistory, all of those places didn´t exist.

People used to live in caves

There, they used to make handprints

And they only started to build architectural structures at the end

of the Neolithic Period (5500-4500 a.c)

Those first structures are known as theMEGALITHIC MONUMENTS

MEGALITHIC MONUMENTS

• The megalithic monuments are prehistoric monuments done with long and big stones.

They were done both at the end of the Neolithic Period and the Metal Period

They are the first big architectural structures done in the western Europe.

• A cromlech is a megalithic monument which consists on a circle made of stones.

DOLMEN

A dolmen is a megalithic construction which generally consists on several flagstones stuck in the

floor in a vertical position, and in a big flagstone supported over all of them.

• This monument has a chamber shape and is surrounded several times by a great amount of soil.

MENHIR

A menhir is the most simple way of megalithic monument.

It consists on a long stone, slightly carved, put on the floor in a vertical position.

PALAFITOS

• The Palafitos were houses supported by pillars.

They were built in calm water, such as lakes, but sometimes they were built at the

seaside.
