Short presentation on EMR implementation issues

TRANSCRIPT

Practice Fusion: what if the features are already there?

July, 2012

Executive Summary

• Current: Practice Fusion puts majority of the emphasis on technical training, neglecting workflow based implementation

• Outcome: Lack of EMR implementation training leads to poor user experience

• Leading Practice: Enable independent consultants to serve as a main source of the EMR adoption, train support team on workflow solutions.

Likely Benefits• Higher Adoption rates of Practice Fusion • Higher demand for services of the Independent Consultants• Less pressure on the Practice Fusion account managers and the help desk• More personalized help for users from the consultants• Better overall user satisfaction

Common misconceptions among MDs

When switching to EMR…• Workflow stays the same• Functionality of the staff members remains as it is• Processes and standards do not need to be adjusted• Most important is to be fluent with the chosen software

Practice Fusion’s focus on a technical aspect of the deployment seems sufficient for the new users who are not demanding additional services of the Independent Consultants

Therefore there are several opportunity areas associated with lack of implementation consulting:

• Underutilization of the tools Practice Fusion has to offer• Decreasing of a satisfaction of the Practice Fusion users due to “lacking”

functions*• Decreased productivity in the practice*Sources: PF Forum and third party research

Current PF training approach

• Real life examples from the Practice Fusion forum illustrating opportunities :

Solution

VFC

Standard reply

Provider intent: Looking for a solution

Intent: Provider needs a solution for a reported issue, which is not necessarily a purely technical

solution. Proposed Solution: Workflow based solution needs

to be added.

Possible answer:• Here is a way around: 1. Create a chart note type with the name "VFC” 2. Create such note every time when administering VFC vaccine 3. In CC part of the note add details (lot, copy/paste insurance info...etc).4. When time comes to submit: run report on "chart note type"-> "VFC", print out all notes associated with the report manually. Submit!

Standard reply

Possible answer1. Download Adobe Pro2. Create your signature forms in Adobe Pro3. Offer a patient to sign on the screen4. Download in patient’s chart in Practice Fusion

Standard reply

Possible answerA consultant (C) would ask the provider (P):

(C)How do you plan to use that report?

(P) I plan to buy new equipment and want to track how many ultrasounds I currently do per month!

(C) Here how you could do it: 1.Create a chart note type «Ultrasound procedure»2.Create a note «Ultrasound procedure» every time you do ultrasound3.Run report on chart note type «Ultrasound procedure» at the end of the month - count how many of them are in the report

Recommended actions

• Promote and explain value, which Independent Consultants could bring to the table

• Customize training for independent consultants so they are more qualified to introduce PF into a workflow

• Provide workflow-based training for the help desk employees
