Acid Rain kills trees as

leaves die and so

photosynthesis cannot

take place.

Acid rain affects the

soil in forests – trees

cannot adapt to the

changing soil type

and so they die. Eg

The Black Forest

region of Germany

Acid rain falls into

lakes – fish cannot

adapt to the

higher acidic

content and so

they die. Eg lakes

in Sweden

When humans drink water that has

been affected by acid rain, they may

develop problems with their lungs and

breathing as sulphate and nitrate

particles enter their air ways.

Bronchitis and asthma may occur.

Acid rain affects buildings and

statues, especially if they are

made from sedimentary rocks like

limestone or have cement in them.

The acid in the rainwater dissolves

the limestone (revise Limestone

notes) eg. Colosseum in Rome
