General Procedure for Generator Model Validation via Testing
• Gather relevant machine data, plant/field information make a detailed test plan Standard tests Customized tests
• Make a detailed test plan • Conduct pre-test simulations as needed Perform field tests Process test data
• Derive model parameters from test data Select model structure Perform model parameter optimization Represent model compatible with the required simulation software
• Write a testing and model validation report

PSS®E Playback Feature PLBVFU1 Model Overview
• Plays back a known set of voltage and frequency signals
• Acts as a generator model. Do not attach an AVR or governor model
• Text file format for played-back voltage and frequency signals as follows (each sample described in a separate record and the values in each record separated by spaces or commas):
Time, voltage, frequency
• Available in PSS®E 33.8 and newer versions

PSS®E Playback Feature PLBVFU1 Model Overview
• Played-back signal file requirements: With extension “.plb”. File name (without extension) <= 12 Located in the working folder (if not found, the playback feature will be
ignored) • Played-back voltage signal = internal (Thevenin) voltage of the playback
generator (ZSORCE for PLVFBU1 model should be non-zero)
• The sampled voltage and frequency values may be smoothed via a first order block with time constants Tv (for voltage signal) and Tf (for frequency signal).
