Welcome to the Second Annual Congress on Disruptive Technology in Healthcare by Agora Group. The only congress in the MENA Region to explore the opportunities and challenges of disruptive technologies in Healthcare and the investment prospects in this sector.
Agora produces and hosts first class exclusive congresses focused on One on One meetings. Our mission is to facilitate connecting international companies to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through multiple platforms that allow direct reach to corporate buyers and investors from these regions. We organize a series of high level, closed door, exclusive events, in disruptive and emerging technologies. We gather leading business influencers in one place and help them match their common interests, and build ground for good deals.
However, 2020 is a year like no other. Never in my mind did I once think that we will get to a point where physical gathering of people can be banned to secure our safety and health and that digital events will come to dominate the conference landscape this year.
The Global Healthcare landscape is rapidly changing. In the next 20 years we will witness a revolution in the healthcare sector in all geographies. The healthcare sector in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in general, is witnessing a phase of significant growth. A recent report by Fitch Solutions suggests that that the MENA region’s healthcare market is projected to grow from US$ 185.5 billion in 2019 to US$ 243.6 billion with an 11.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) at constant exchange rates through to 2023. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in particular, the healthcare government is extensively expanding and upgrading its healthcare system to develop a robust world-class healthcare infrastructure.
The Second Annual Congress on disruptive technology in Healthcare webinar took place on September 14, 2020 from 2pm-5pm Dubai time. Agora was honored with a robust lineup of subject matter experts and leaders from the Healthtech industry who shared with us their expertise, skills and thoughts and answered all of our audiences’ questions.

Disruptive innovation has been a hot topic for years. As the healthcare systems in the Middle East continue to upgrade their services and strategies steadily, the COVID-19 pandemic focused the spotlight on the deficiencies within these systems. Therefore, the subject of disrupting healthcare has resurfaced. What does that mean? Why is it important? Who is it for? How do we start, and most importantly, why now? There are the questions we aim to touch upon during this talk.

Chrissa McFarlane, Founder & CEO, Patientory, Inc.
There are growing initiatives and calls to focus greater attention to the social determinants of health (SDOH) and their impact on population health (Heiman and Artiga, 2015). Several emerging strategies are being used to begin to address social determinants, such as the use of health impact assessments and applying health in all policies (HiAP). These strategies and tools are being implemented in an eort to review existing and needed policies, as well as to propose new policies to lessen health disparities (Koh et al., 2011). Eorts to further integrate SDOH through the use of health information technology and other emerging technologies, such as distributed ledger technology both in and outside of existing healthcare systems, are also increasing (Koh et al., 2011). Understanding and addressing the SDOH through both traditional and non-traditional sectors is key to further reducing health disparities (Heiman and Artiga, 2015; Cottrell et al., 2018; McGinnis et al., 2002).
Through exploration of the current state of SDOH in the healthcare industry, an analysis of blockchain technology will render the acceleration and adoption of SDOH to eectively provide improved health outcomes.
