Initial drop test simulation for a newly designed water bottle.

PRALI bikeAnother project undertaken was to take an existing bike concept and develop this into a fully functional, cost saving design with materials and manufacture developed alongside to produce an efficient end result that appeals to the target market.

Assembly drawings of the bike, sub assemblys and parts were produced. Inclusive of material choices resulting in Factor of Safety values calculated and stresses associated with the forces applied onto the bike frame.

Rendering of the final Solidworks model shows the aesthetic value, with moveable parts to show functionality of the bike.

Mould manufacture and part production - Injection mouldingTo further expand my knowledge of material use, tooling and manufacturing processes an injection moulding assignment was undertaken. Above is the complete part, consisting of the two pieces to the mould, fixing bolts and one of the complete parts after production.

Manufacture of this part developed my own understanding of the toils of manufacture, appreciating the products on the market and acknologing the difficulties faced. Allowing reflection on how design for manufacture is key to controlling costs and producing a viable product specification.

Within a group our assignment was to create a part and complete the injection moulding process from start to finish.

A cylinder of metal was cut on a lathe to produce the mould, the production of a male and female part gave the complete part (In this case, a syringe cap) form to function.

The mould was injected with Polypro-pelene and cooled, before removing the finished part from the Mould.

Right balance

The product includes a food bowl, treat dispenser and weight scale. Aiming at the problem of pet obesity and overfeeding the right balance bowl educates owners on the amount of food to serve.

The scale measures the weight of the food and provides markings on one serving of wet/dry food. The treat is dispensed when the food is eaten to satisfy the animal with a smaller portion than usual.

Curve climberUpon taking a brief a new pet product was required

for design and manufacture as a wholesale product. An undertaking on materials, manufacturing processes

and the product development itself took place to find a problem, solve it and market the product to the

company.

Large quantities of sketchwork was produced to find 6 concepts to pitch to the company setting the brief. The Curve Climber was chosen to further develop and so additional research was put fowards, including potential cost reductions and marketing strategies to the consumer.

The purpose of this product was to replace the hamster wheel due to problems targeted around noise levels and the scale of the wheel in comparison to the cage and hamster itself.

Curve Climber produces a static frame where the hamster can be suspended whilst running at full speed, resulting in a straighter back and fun viewing for the owner.
