Definition Pornography is the depiction of

sexual behavior that is intended to arouse sexual excitement in its audience. (1)

•Images scanned from adult magazines were encoded as “ascii text” and then broken into sections which were posted.

•Image quality was restricted by the size of files that could be posted due to the bandwith size in the ‘90s. (2)

What is ASCII Art?...

• ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of pictures.

• Images had been

transmitted over the Internet as “ASCII porn” but to send images over a network needed computers with graphics capability and also higher network bandwidth. (3,4)

rapidly in the 90s once internet was available to the general public.

• Able to watch porn movies on their home computer rather than waiting weeks for an order from a magazine. (2,5,6)
