This may be the first newsletter some of you have received in quite some time. During the last week our email system was reviewed and up-dated for addresses that are in our account-
ing system. At the last meeting it was welcom-ing to hear that some members that weren’t getting emails in the past are now starting to receive them. You will be definitely be seeing more and more from us!! The process was-n’t full proof howev-er. I’m sure there are some members that may not have their ad-dress on file with us. This is where I can use your help. If a
member you know is-n’t getting our emails, have them reach out to me at secretary@ponusyachtclub.com. Or, have them leave a note for me with their email address at the bar. Another area of focus was updating the website to be a little more user friend-ly. The member’s sec-tion should be a little more manageable to navigate. You’ll see
more updates down the road. If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions continue to reach out to me, and if I don’t know the answer I’ll get it to someone who could.

Fleet Captain’s View—Joe Bernadino
Ponus Yacht Club Newsletter Page 2
The winter season ends March 31st, therefore the sum-mer season starts April 1st. If you do not have a 2018 sum-mer contract your vessel needs to be removed from the club property by April 1st! All boaters that have a 2018 summer contract and you in-tend to store your trailer on club property be sure to have your name clearly marked on your trailer.
Summer contracts can be found in the member’s only section of the PYC website
(example is be-low).
I hope that everyone has en-joyed this February thaw we have been experiencing these last few days! It has allowed some of the boaters to start preparing their boats for spring launch. Although a de-finitive date has not been picked yet I am looking at some time during the week of April 16th. We will launch the larger boats on a Friday and launch the smaller boats on Saturday. The second launch dates will be sometime during the week of May 14th. Let’s hope the weather cooperates! Please advise the Fleet Cap-tain if your vessel will not be ready for launch and by the way this event is not just for boaters, any member can par-ticipate and receive credit for their work hours!
I will be posting a work party list inside the club for the spring cleanup prior to launch date. As some of you have seen the ramp has collected some serious debris from the Davenport project across channel. We also need to clean the parking lot, clean windows and power wash the deck, docks and exterior tables/chairs.
As boaters or their sub-contractors prepare vessels for launch the club has very specific rules governing the operations that generate
hazardous materials. If you have any doubt consult the Fleet Captain prior to commencing any tasks. Moreover, all materi-als must be removed from the club property daily. No materi-als are to be disposed of in the dumpster!
On launch day the boat owner or designee must be present. The designee must be able to start and maneuver the vessel from the ramp or guest dock and place the vessel into its as-signed berth. All lines and fend-ers should be attached the day before launch and don’t forget to install the drain plug!
Commodores Corner—Rich Gogola
Greetings. The weather seems to be getting bet-ter. Mardi Gras night was a success. We started up Sun-day Brunch with a build your own bloody mary bar, that's getting better and better every week. Sammy as always, does a great job, especially with the prime rib night we
are bringing back. All in all, progress is being made be-hind the scenes and across the board in general. We have DJ's most of March, and a band on St Patrick's Day, and lets not forget the great Kids Easter Egg Hunt we brought back last year. Sign up, get involved, support and
enjoy your club. I've toured a few of the local and not so lo-cal Yacht Clubs, and have some more new and fresh ideas I'm gonna bring up to the board. Again, thanks for the honor and privilege to serve the membership. Rich
House Happenings—Quick Note from House Committee
As I sit here and write this I am hearing some god awful news that a Nor’easter is heading our way, I for one, was hoping that we were on track for an early spring, but unfortunately this may not be in the cards as of yet.
Soon enough though, the clouds will change to blue skies, temperatures will rise and the club will be alive with activity again.
I wanted to let you all know that back by popular demand
is Prime Rib Night, which we will offer the last Thursday of each month.
Along with our regular menu on Sunday, Brunch is now also available from 11:30 - 3:00, it will be served as an Ala cart menu with breakfast specials, along with a make your own Bloody Mary Bar for your en-joyment.
Your manager & house commit-tee are currently working on a new menu for our spring /summer season, we anticipate
having things finalized in rela-tively short order with an un-veiling sometime late March to early April.
Please come down & see what’s new at your club as time allows, it always good to see old friends and make new ones!
House Committee Chair:
TJ Koproski

will be having games, prizes and a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny.
Adults can order lunch from the menu.
Bring the kids, have some fun and support the club.
Please sign-up at the club or call the club to have your kids placed on the list
Men’s Night Dinner—by Dan Fedele

Roast Beef and Gravy, Chicken Scarpiello, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and closing out the meel with
Coffee, Cookies and of course some Sambuca to help with the sweet dreams of spring.
Membership Committee update—Mel Goldenberg
flecting By-Law changes
made in late 2017 are availa-
ble behind the bar. Why not
sponsor a new applicant early
in the year so that new mem-
bers can enjoy as much of the
year’s membership as possible.
$75 chit bonuses will continue
to apply. In order to sponsor
someone for membership, you
must know the applicant per-
sonally, have been a member
yourself for at least one year
and currently be a member-in-
good-standing.
If you didn’t attend the recent
Membership meeting, watch
for the posting of “new sum-
mer slip” holders. Being a
member pays-off. A total of 9
members have been awarded
slips all joined the PYC in
2015, 2016 and even 2017!!!.
Congratulations to all
of the lucky slip holders.
Be on the lookout in the next
few months for an announce-
ment of new member “class
projects”. A new twist.
Hopefully some warmer weather will be coming and work on our boats won’t be far behind.
Congratulations to our newest
members, John Geils and Melis-
sa Lonquich voted in at the Jan-
uary 30th Membership meeting
and to Richard Ruyack, Jr.,
Alexander Nanai and Donald
Federle voted in at the February
27th Membership meeting.
Please say hello when you meet
them at the club. An offer of com-
radery at the club goes a long way
to making new, lasting friendships
and maintaining members over the
long run.
And welcome to our newest
Membership Committee mem-
ber, Maureen Boylan. She is al-
ready in full-on activity mode.
The 2018 Membership Commit-
tee also includes returning mem-
bers Dan Fedele, Bryan Tunney,
Rich Wilkins and myself.

Monthly boat tip from “Docktor Dinter” aka Director Randy Dinter
Hello again, Winter is beginning to wind down, so it will be time to get back to boating soon. As you begin to assemble and review your "to do" list, don't forget to check your boat's fire extin-guishers (home too). "Kidde" announced last year that around 40 million of the portable fire
extinguishers they produced may potentially fail to oper-ate. You can go the manufac-turer's web site to see if yours may be among them. As you begin to check the hull and run-ning gear, don't forget to look inside those neat plastic thru-hull fittings around the water line for any signs of crack-ing. UV doesn't stop for the
winter. One of the advantages to membership at the Ponus, is the knowledge and experience that you can tap into among our boat-ers. Hope to see you soon, out in the sun! Randy Dinter
