POINTERS, SETTERS AND SIGHTHOUNDS

The Pointing Group, number 7 of the FCI categorisation, is made up of Pointers (or pointing dogs) and Setters.

The Pointer is a type of gundog, called this because of its instinct to point, by stopping and aiming its muzzle at game.

The Setter is also one of the gundogs, most frequently used for hunting game such as quail, pheasant and grouse.

Setters include the beloved red setter, the Gordon Setter and the Irish Setter. The

setter was bred to hunt silently for its game.

Sighthounds belong to another FCI category, the tenth in fact. Also called gazehounds, the dog was

bred to hunt down its prey using its excellent sight. The Afghan one is my favourite:
