What is WorkKeys?

WorkKeys assessments measure “real world” skills critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation – skilled or professional – at any level of education, and in any industry.

The goal is for all students to be Employed, Enrolled, or Enlisted by graduation! Stop by the Career Center in Room 1403.

Works with and along side Counselors and CDC to assist, support and help prepare students and parents with the transition to “the real world”

JROTC and ASVABArmed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

Covers basic knowledge such as math and verbal skills, writing skills, and vocabulary.

Required test for entrance into the military.• No cost to student• No obligation to join• Prep and Interpretation at SJHS• Job skills

Potential Dates: 4 days between March 13-22Cost: $1500-$2000 per student

Senior Expenses Formal Portraits (yearbook): Sitting fee is $20; portrait packages vary

Graduation Cap and Gown: Deposit due in November is $80. The unit will be $88.00 (with taxes and shipping and handling). Graduates MUST have a cap and gown unit to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Attendance PolicyPolicy Code: 4110 AttendanceRegular school attendance is required for every student by State law and the Board of Education.

All students must be present for a minimum of 91% of all class meetings to receive credit for a course during any grading period. That is, if absences from class exceed four per nine weeks, eight per semester or sixteen per year, the maximum grade a student may receive for the grading period is F or 59, regardless of the reasons for the absences. In order to be considered in attendance, a student (except for hospital/nomebound) must be present in school or at a place other than school with the approval of the appropriate school official for the purpose of attending an authorized school activity, such as a field trip, student council meeting, athletic contest, etc.

WaiverAt the discretion of the principal, the 91% requirement may be waived.

Graduation RequirementsStudents in Johnston County shall meet the following exit standards for graduation from high

school: 1. Complete EOC assessments for English II, Biology, NC Math I and Math III. 2. Successfully complete 28 units of high school credit

● 4 English (I, II, III, IV)

● 4 Math (NC Math 1, 2, 3 and 4th Math Option)

● 3 Credits: Earth, Biology, and a Physical Science

● 4 Credits: World History, Civics and Economics, American History I & II

● 1 H & PE● 6 Specific Electives (Dependent on students career path/future plans)

● 5 Electives● CPR Instruction

28 Credits to graduate

Senior AthletesMust be taking 3 classes in the FALL semester to be eligible to play

Plan to play in college: (Division I and II), register with the NCAA Eligibility Center

To be eligible for high school athletic participation, a student must have met promotion standards set forth by the Board of Education, passed a minimum three courses for schools on the block format, and must meet the

attendance guidelines set forth by Johnston County Public Schools. Teacher assistance, office assistance, library assistance, or laboratory assistance cannot count as one of the courses passed for eligibility. Participation in interscholastic athletics is open to any student in Johnston County who is properly enrolled in the system and

meets the requirements as mandated by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

GraduationEarly Graduation Ceremony: December 19th 6:30PM

EOY Graduation: May 29th

Seniors will participate in only one ceremony; must practice to walk in FORMAL ceremony

Graduation Practice: Directly after “breakfast/lunch” on May 29th

Graduation: May 29th in the Old Gym
