Why do plants need to reproduce?

Survival of species

• Plants reproduce to ensure the survival of their species.

• Plants reproduce in many different ways.

1. Through Seeds

1) Flowering plants reproduce through seeds

2) Flowers will normally become fruits that contain seeds

2. Through Leaves

1) When leaf drops to the soil, the buds will grow into new plants

2) Example: Bryophyllum

3. Stem cutting

1) A part of the stem is cut from the parent plant and planted in the soil

2) The buds on the stem will grow into new plants

3) Example: Hibiscus , Tapioca

4. Through Suckers

1) New shoots that grow from the underground stems or root of parent plants

2) Example: banana trees, bamboo tree

5. Through Spores

1) Spores can be easily carried away by the wind.

2) They will grow into young plant. 3) Example: ferns, mushrooms

6. Through Underground Stem

1) The underground stem has buds which grow into new plants.

2) Contain stored fruits for plants to grow.3) Example: ginger, potato
