• Pre-Raphaelites encouraged studying nature in order to improve the artist’s ability to represent it expressively.

• You are going to study the human figure, and use planar portrait technique to sculpt it in an expressive way.

• Think about body language and what different poses communicate.

• Decide on what you want your figure to communicate, and then decide what pose will be most appropriate to communicate the intended emotion.

• Use planes to “flesh out” the figure; there are several different ways of doing this.
