Design and maintenance
Maintenance and operational reliability: Pipe supports assemblies are designed and supplied for normal operational conditions, or in specific defined contract conditions as a maintenance-free. Between calculated and installation / work load can occur difference even 15% which is primarily caused by pipe wall thickness tolerations and other influences not involved in piping computational model. Considering that, we recommend especially for category III pipes to perform installation supervision and eventual adjustment, and moreover periodical revisions of pipe support condition. For installation supervisions and periodical revisions we have elaborated system of implementation and assessment, which complies with international laws and recommendations. This revisions and inspections can be ordered in addition to equipment delivery. The range of inspection duration is in range of 2-3 workdays at the operation site. Periodical revisions plan is described in special company standard. Design: Elements and pipe supports assemblies are designed from view of functionality, load capacity and permissible load in accordance with EN 13480-3 chapter 13 and furthermore German guidelines VGB R 510-L-Teil 1. Upon request we also supply pipe supports designed and manufactured according to ASME B31.1 and MSS-SP58 standards. Maximum allowable loads for individual elements are stated in pipe support catalogue. Tabulated values are declared for normal operational conditions, i.e. static load and temperature 80°C and standard car bon steel as a default material. Selecting assemblies of pipe hangers, supports and guides from catalogue For pipe supports it is favorable to use type support assemblies, assembled from catalogue elements:
o standard assemblies are reliable and well-proven o standard support elements are described in catalogue o assemblies comply with all requirements of standards EN 13 480-3, VGB R 510-L-Teil 1
and ASME B31.1 a MSS-SP58. You can choose pipe support assembly only by its design and function which you demand for your construction. We will select right components and materials for you. Type support assemblies are stated in type illustrations in section B of the catalogue. All necessary data for parameter specification you can find in our data list. That is also available in MS Excel format for download form our web pages. We recommend use of our data lists as they are structured for explicit description and also supplemented with annotations for users. Unified form of specifications is always most comprehensible for submitter, just like for supplier.

Load capacity of supports elements
Table of load capacity classes, connection dimensi ons FN – nominal load of support element cor-
responds to nominal spring load according to catalogue. FMAX – maximum load capacity of assembly at
80°C. Defined as the lowest of load values for type elements of given load class. For clamps and supports the loads are stated in tables for each size / type and herein stated maximum load values are necessary to multiply by temperature / material class correction factor. Connection dimensions – hanger rod diameter
or pin diameter are always equal in one load capacity class.
Load categorization Load classes are categorized by load conditions acc. to table. Catalog load capacity of individual elements is declared for class G. Load capacities for another classes are calculated from following formula: FMAX (Q) = 1,33 * FMAX (G)
Allowed load for clamps and U-bolts in dependence o n temperature
Maximum allowed load values FMAX stated in catalogue sheets tables are declared for 80°C, static tension stress (for
use in standard assemblies acc. to section B of catalogue) and load class G. Tabled allowed clamps and U-bolts loads in vertical direction FMAX are related to material S235 – group 1 and to temperature 80°C. For different
temperatures and materials it is necessary to multiply this default load by correction factor from table. For higher operational temperatures applies: FMAX (T) = FMAX * k
Factors for material group no. 8 shall be evaluated for every element separately in dependence on operational conditions. Factors are calculated according to EN 13480-3 with regard to other national regulations. For area of temperatures within the creep range are values of stress for 200.000 hours used.

Principle of assemblies code marking system is desc ribed in section A of catalogue.
Type assemblies of pipe supports Gradior
- clearly indicated function of the assembly enables a fast choice while designing the piping- assemblies of one type for different dimensions, loading and temperature, are the same as for the function and shape - hangers load chain consists of unified elements - assemblies and type elements follow the requirements of the EN and ASME/MSS standards. - assemblies of setting consist of standardized elements, which have been designed with respect to the unification - one type (shape) of the element for a wide range of the operating loads and temperatures, mutual compatibility among the type assemblies and unified connecting dimensions for one group of load capacity.
Order datalist
To specify exactly all the requirements of setting, use the orderdatasheet, where all the main data of the assembly and type arepredetermined. Each assembly is determined by its function according to thefollowing overview, further then by the piping diameter, maindimensions (dimensions stated in the icons of the overview),loads and travels, by the way of connecting to the structureand/or on basis of a further specification of the required typeelement (for instance, the support type or pipe clamp type ).
Pipe supports
In terms of operating reliability of piping systems, the pipesupports represents an important element, which directlyinfluences function of the plant and its durability. By in-correct function of the pipe supports, failures in operatingreliability or even a serious damage to the piping systemcan occur. Among the consequences of the often failuresin operation of supports there are, for instance, anoverloading of the flanges resulting in leakage, overloading of the rotary equipment connected to thepiping resulting in higher vibrations, overloading of thepiping parts resulting in occurring possible cracks, mainlyoperating in creep range. For industrial piping it is usefulto apply standard support assemblies considering theclearly determined requirements of function, consisting oftype elements according to their purpose, load capacityand costs, which are decreased thanks to the mutualunification of the used elements.
Pipe supports - division of basic assemblies
According to the function, the basic assemblies can be divided as follows:
RH - Rod Hanger SH - Spring Hanger CH - Constant Hanger SS - Sliding Support FP - Fix Point GS - Guide Support VS - Variable Support CS - Constant Support BH - Hanger for Pipe Racks GP - Guide Plate SP - PTFE Sliding Plate RS - Rigid Strut UB - U Bolt CL - Clip
Support assemblies can be produced in different options, for instance, double-rod hanger for the horizontal or vertical piping. The options are distinguished:- by a digit behind the abbreviation RH or SH / CH concerning assemblies of hangers - directly by the catalogue type concerning other assemblies - assemblies of supports SS can be combined with the plates GP and SP
Application range
The type assemblies of hangers, supports and their ac-cessory, which consist of the catalogue elements, aremeant for all the applications in power, chemical, andpetrochemical industry. According to the dimensions, loading and operating temperatures they can be used for:
- piping diameters DN15 - DN800 - loads up to 113 kN - operating temperatures from -20°C to +580°C - spring for operating travels up to 200mm
For different operating ranges, e.g. pipe supports of largerdimensions, we will suggest and deliver a constructioneven beyond the dimension range stated in the catalogue.
Possibility of deliveries for special constructions : - saddle and piping supports up to the diameter of 3000mm- fix points for high loading and operating temperatures- shoes and supports of the cryogenic piping - hangers of the membrane walls and chambers of the steam generators - assemblies including silent-blocks - supporting steel constructions

Type A Type B Type C Type D
The connection art depends on the type of theauxiliary steel structure. In terms of the loadtransmission, all the types are equivalent. For higher rod angle deviations - more than 4°and for hanger assemblies of the RH2 and RH4types, it shall be used a connection type B only.
Connection of the hanger rods to the structure
To connect the hanger rods to the steel structure, there are more possible options consisting of typeelements. The type of connection is necessary to bespecified in the order datasheet. All the types fulfill thecondition of a possible angle deviation of the rod up to4° from the vertical axis. Connections of the specificload group are dimensioned for the highest load statedin the chart on page B-1.
Type A - spherical plate for setting onto U-channel beams.
Type B - weld on clevis for higher horizontal movements of piping.
Type C - weld on eye for standard use.
Type D - connection clamp to the profile flange. Easy assembly without necessity to weld, e.g. for zinc-coated constructions.
Setting of supports onto construction / floor To prevent the steel or supportive structures or floors from abrasion, we suggest to set the sliding supports at steel plates. The plates can be equipped with parts for guiding the supports in all directions at random clearance, or with the PTFE sliding plate to decrease friction between support and the base plate. The supports of 611, 614, 661, 664 types can be delivered together with a polyamide plate to prevent coat abrasion.
The plates of the GP and SP types are delivered asoptions which can be welded or bolted to the structure, optionally connected to the floor via concrete anchors. The plates for the supports of the SS type correspond indimensions to the base dimensions of the standard typesof supports (type group 61x).
For GS assemblies, it is necessary to use auxiliarybespoke structures.

Application of spring hangers and supports for commoncases of elimination of pipe shifts resulting from thermalexpansion. The application is suggested for pipe travels(mainly vertical) of supports up to 50mm. For highervalues it is necessary to use constant hangers.
Selection of spring size, i.e. the nominal spring loaddepends on considered loads in all operating conditions. These shall be within the range of spring operatingcharacteristics. Further, it is necessary to keep a travelreserve towards the upper and lower spring position.Recommended reserves shall be min. 5mm or 20% of thetravel value. In some cases it is suggested to use 10%reserve of the spring load.

Function - the spring support consists of a pre-compressed helical coil spring in a cylindrical housing, elements for travel indication and a turnbuckle nut for load adjustement at the assembly. The springs are supplied blocked and preset to the required load. Blocking is realised by a cluster inserted into holes of the casing and wrapped with a safety tape. After piping erection or pressure test, deblocking of all spring supports shall be performed and checked! Load capacity of the blocked spring support at a pressure test is more than 2 times of nominal load.
spring
Selection of the nominal spring travel is limited by theload deviation in range of a hot and cold state. Thecondition of the load change is determined from:
dF = (Fh - Fc) / Fh < 25%
whereas Fh is the hot load and Fc cold load. Because ofa higher stiffness, springs of a lower travel results tohigher load changes, but their application is moreeconomical and practital due to lower built-in length andweight.

Spring size
The spring size / travel is determined by the nominal load(maximum load of the spring in N) and by the nominaltravel. A spring indicated by size 1-12 corresponds to thenominal load. The springs for the hangers and supportsare divided into eight basic sizes for loads of 0,2 to 63kN.For these sizes there are three nominal travels of 50, 100,200mm, except for the spring supports of 50 and 100mmtravel only.
The springs of further sizes of 11 and 12, for loads up to 108kN, consisting of more springs. This multispring supports are only for the nominal travel 50 and 100mm. The force-lift relations and spring stiffness for all sizes are stated in table bellow. Load groups, determining the connecting size of the rod (see the overview in the introduction and production group 8 – connecting elements), are stated in the bottom line of table.

Deblocking and load adjustment
Hangers Type 1x2 and 1x5 are connected to rodsscrewed in upper spring plate and turnbuckle on the lowerconnection side. For load adjustment turnbuckle to beused.
Deblocking of spring support shall be executed after pipecleaning, pressure test and insulating. Remove safety tapefastening the clusters inserted into spring hanger. At rightload setting, when spring and pipe loads are equal, theblocking clusters may be put slightly out of hanger. If not, load shall be readjusted turning span nuts or turnbuckle, toachieve the balance. After deblocking, a cluster shall befasten to hanger rod or support casing, using a steel wire.It may be used for repetitionary pressure test.
Installation of spring hangers and supports shall be performed according to support manufacturerassembly drawing. Spring hangers/supports are supplied blocked and preset to the required load. Before installation, the rods shall be cut to the required length, measured for each support at site.Positive length allowace for rods set in turnbuckle shall be at least 0,5*nominal spring travel. Aftersubsequent load adjustment the mimimum rod overlap must be at least 0,5*M (see fig.). In case ofspring hangers 1x2 the top rod must be screwed into top plate to depth M and fastened down by safetynut.

Beams and Trapezes
They are used as a rod connecting elements for double rod hanger assemblies.
Beams are connected on rod hangers by clevis with pin (for type 334) or directly by threaded rod (type 311 and 321).
For hanger assemblies RH4-6, SH11-19 and similar it is possible to use modified beam type 334.
Beams type 334 are welded, other types are designed for bolt connection.
Installation:
Surface treatment:As default, the beams are delivered with top coating.Beams for small pipe dimensions are galvanized.
Piping shall be placed as close to beam center as possible to prevent uneven rod loading. We recommend tokeep the support position in area of +/-0,2 * E from beam center, where E is hanger rods spacing. For hangerassemblies RH4-6 and SH11-19 beam shall be modified by welding a spherical plate type 932. Plate must beplaced accurately in the beam centre. The weldment of shoe to beam shall be made at site.
The weldment of shoe to beam shall be made at site.
Firstly, the beams shall be connected to hanging rods, assembly plan according to connection elements 800.Beam must be always in horizontal position regarding its longitudinal axis. Allowed deviation is 1%. Beams type334 can be used for sloped piping up to 45° pipe slope. Support s hoes must be welded during installationaccording to assembly drawing of hanger. After welding the repair coat must be applied. For humid conditions, the shoe and beam weld must be enclosed. Piping must be placed so that rod hangers do not go throughinsulation.

Installation
Struts of type 411 must be installed in position according to assembly drawing that allows 6° misalignment.Adjustment bolts should be positioned approximately in middle distance of thread length. Strut shortening /lengthening is performed by turning of strut pipe. After adjustment it is necessary to examine the screw depththrough holes in pipe and secure bolts by safety nut.
Clevis with pin type 440 is jointed to steel structure with fillet welds. Weld size is stated on assembly drawing oftype RS. Pin must be secured by cotter pin after installation.
are designed for static and cyclic stress, values stated in table are for 10000 cycles.
Clamps for pipe connection are designed for sustained static and occasional forces, in area of highertemperatures and for material groups 3 and 4 it is necessary to multiply standard tabeled load for material group1 by corrective factor given in table.
Installation of pipe clamps type 420 must ensure that upper clamp nut does not "strangle" pipe and thatsuspension of clamp nuts washers is allowed. Nuts shall be tightened only to seating and clearance adjustment, and must not be preloaded!
Installation of clamps type 423 is the same as of clamps type 733. Nuts are manually tigtened to seating onclamps and position determining. Afterwards they are tightened by spanner by 90°.
Rigid struts assemblies RS are guaranteed to keep clearance of pipe movement restraining direction under0,5mm for pins d≤33mm or 0,015*d for pins d>33mm.
LoadAllowable clamp load Fmaxgiven in table relates to mat.group 1 and temperature 80°C.For different temperatures andmaterials it is necessary tomultiply standard tabeled loadby correct. factor given in table.

Application of weld-on shoes is convenient especially for operations in corrosiveenviroments, for outdoor or subterranean piping. Use of clamp supports of type range 600in such cases leads to moisture condensation and water retention in interstice betweenclamp and pipe, with consequential corrosive damage of pipe wall. Pipe shoes of typerange 500 are welded to pipe wall by enclosed weld and after surface treatment the jointremains protected from corrosive damage.
Weld-on shoes are designed for use as an individual sliding supports or guidance forsmall horizontal load.

511512564
ApplicationType
Use of weld-on shoes and stanchions is limited by danger of crack initiation in shoe/pipe weld joint, whichmay occur on piping with high operational temperatures. Different temperatures of pipe wall surface andshoe causes high load gradients in weld area. Thereby use of weld-on shoes is limited for temperaturesup to 150°C and, considering another hazard effects, for low -pressure piping up to PN40. Weld joint cannot be heat treated.
Position of weld-on shoe can not be adjusted after installation, therefore it is necessary to scale carefully
566
Surface treatmentWeld-on shoes are available in two surface treatment options:System 1 - top coat + weldable prime coat in weld areaSystem 2 - galvanized + weldable prime coat in weld area
Position of weld-on shoe can not be adjusted after installation, therefore it is necessary to scale carefullythe shoe position before welding, especially with regard to assumed pipe movements in operationalcondition. Shoes are welded by fillet welds according to assembly drawing. Welding method and plan isselected by installing organisation according to relevant rules for piping installation - parts integrallyconnected to pipe wall. Welds must be performed in such way that the residual tension in weld area isminimalized.
After welding it is necessary to perform surface treatment finishing - corrective prime coat and top coat in weld area.

Surface treatment
Indoor application / insulated piping - prime coatOutdoor application / uninsulated piping - touch-up coatOutdoor application, insulated / uninsulated piping - galvanised
According to the requirements it is possible to deliver galvanised or zinc-coated supports. The way of the surface treatment shall be stated in the order specification.
LoadsThe maximum allowable load of supports is stated in the catalogue pages in the horizontal axis and for vertical direction.Allowable load in vertical directions Fmax relates to the CS basic material S235, at temperature of 80°C . Loads fordifferent operating temperatures and materials shall be multiplied by correction factors according to the following table.Loads in horizontal direction are determined from frictional force between the clamp and the piping wall. In cases ofaddiditonal horizontal loads, an extra load evaluation from manufacturer is necessary. Fx direction is equal to thepiping axis, direction Fy element upright to the piping axis.

with a stainless-steel, polish-ed plate at the support base,to be used in combinationwith the PTFE sliding platesGP.
with a polyamide plate at thebase - to be used on sup-ports without any baseplates.
The clamp supports are supplied in twobasic designs – inclined or straight pipeclamp. According to the requirements ofthe sliding friction between the support andthe base, it is possible to choose a typewith the stainless-steel of poly-amide plateat the support shoe. To limit vertical shiftsof the supports on the structure beams, it ispossible to use a restraint plate welded atthe bottom of the base – design G.Production designs are distinguished by asign behind the first three numbers of thetype code.
Type 6xx.1 - inclined clamp type
The support can be placed under the piping, which is fixed in a assembly height.
Type 6xx.2 - horizontal clamp type
The piping to be put onto a fixed support.
Connection to structure -supports of the 611, 614, 661- 665 types may be connected to the structure via bolting clamps of the 971 type.
NoteCorrection factors for thetemperature relate to thevertical loads only. Forhorizontal direction theallowable values areidentical for all tempe-ratures.

Installation
The sliding supports of type .1 is possible to set directly under the pipingfixed in a required asembly height.
Type .2 supports (horizontal clamp), set support shoe first before pipinglocation. The same procedure for the fix points of the 652 type.
The sliding supports are located to the steel or other sliding surfaces, which must be properly cleaned and surface-treated before assembly.
The supports are welded only to the trapese beams of the double-rodhangers only. The fix points can be welded or bolted down to structure.
For anchoring / guide plates see list 9-9 or notes at support drawing.
Height adjustment of supports
Steel structures under the supports must be levelled in such way, that the support will be visibly loaded and incontact with baseplate. A desired level adjustment is possible using inserting plates, which must be firmlyconnected to the structure and fixed to avoid any movements.
Height-adjustable supports of the 664 type shall be welded before release the temporary lifting devices of thepiping. The welds are indicated in support assembly drawing. Coat on welded surfaces shall be applied .
Height-adjustable supports of the 661 type, the bolted connections are tightened on the support shoe. The plates

The nuts are tightened according to the size at the sametorque as the nuts of the type 652 clamps according to the following chart. A safety fixing shall be done by acounter-nut.
Tightening of bolt connections of sliding support pipe clamps
The bolts of pipe clamps are tightened according to the following charts. For piping of DN>40, the nuts are secured by a counter-nut. A proper tightening of the bolts is important to avoid slipping between the clamp and the pipe and load transfer from pipe surface to structure, especially for fix points and restraints.

used for load transmission from the pipesurface to other parts of the hanger or support.Clamps 712 type are used for supports as wellas hangers, other clamps for pipe hangersonly. Hanger clamps are divided into the light, middle, and heavy load types according to thepermissible load. For higher temperatures usematerial options according to reduced load -correction table bellow. On request, we alsosupply clamps of different piping diameters asstated in the charts.
Loads The allowable loads to the verticaldirection Fmax (in hangerassembly aplication) relates to theS235 material – group 1 andtemperature of 80°C. For othertemperatures and materials thisbasic load must be multiplied bythe correction factor according tothe chart.
Selection of clamp type depends on: - load and temperature The permissible load multiplied by the temperature and material factors must be lower than the required load.
- required stiffness and reliability for rod hangers of the highly stressed piping prefer the 731,764,765 types- insulation thickness Hanger rod connection shall be outside the insulation.

entsConnecting elements
Connecting elements of the hanger rods are used for load transmissionfrom the pipe clamps to the structure. The type range is designed in theway of possibility of length adjustement. The assembly in combinationwith the elements of group 900 – connection parts to the structure –enables the angulation of rods from the vertical axis of 4°. T he highestallowable load of the connecting elements load chain according to theload capacity group are stated in section A of the catalog.
Each part is determined by a type number and a size – the maindimension of the element is its diameter. With thread dimension overM30 the rod and pivot pin diameters are different. Connection of theeyenut type 832 to the pivot pin of the 850 type enables shift of onedimension, that means for a pivot pin on clamp of load capacity group2 (diameter 16mm) it is possible to use the load chain of rod group 1(diameter 12mm). This is valid in the case that a check of the highestloading of the particular chain elements has been carried out.
All the elements must be fixed by counter-nuts, connecting nuts of the824 type from both sides of the rod.
Threaded rod The rolled threaded rods and nuts are galvanised A3K - silver.
The forged elements and pivot pins are Forgings galvanised A3L - golden.
Pins a round cold-drawn rod of C35E.Nuts strength group 4.

onInstallation instructions
Hanger rods shall be installed in vertical direction - except of the hangers with high horizontalmovements where the rod may be preset in a cold condition under an angle given by the valuedesignated by hanger drawing.
The threaded rods are supplied in lengths with an assembly allowances rounded to +0,5m. To reachrequired length, the rods shall be cut at site.
By installation, attention shall be paid to the screwed depth of all elements. The threaded length of therod must be visible in all check holes.
After assembling of all hanger items, the rod must be tightened up to take over the weight of the piping.Tightening is done using turnbuckle in rod assembly or in a spring hanger. For the A type of structureconnection (square plate type 932), use the nuts above square plate.
Before tightening all the counter-nuts of the rod, the screw-in depth of the threads shall be checkedagain. The counter-nuts to be tightened slightly with a flat spanner.
The splits of the stud pins shall be properly splayed out after the assembly.
A different connecting way of the rods than using a coupling nuts type 824 is strictly forbidden.
By an additional readjusment of the hanger rod length, the counter-nut of the turnbuckle shall be setloose. Other rod counter-nuts shall remain fixed. The thread of the turnbuckle shall be lubricated with anagent on basis of MoS. The reaction moment resulting from the rod turning is caught with a spanner atthe upper and lower counter-nut of the particular rod element. After adjusting, the counter-nuts to betightened again.
The hanger rods are maintenance-free with a correct assembly.
