From the President’s Desk,
Mabuhay! By the end of June 2018, my term as President of the TFSI will come to an end. This may be my last report and I would to express my gratitude to my fellow officers, committee and members who supported me in this exciting and challenging role. What I have learnt over the past 10 months was the importance of being sensitive to the needs of the members, working as a team to get things accomplished. Let us never forget our heritage and be proud a Filipino. I encourage all members to attend our upcoming annual general meeting this June 16th at the St. Joseph Parish Hall, Powder ham Street. It is time to voice out your suggestions, raise any concerns and select a new set of officers and committee. It is with great pride to report that our float won 1st prize during the Taranaki Multi Ethnic street parade on the 3rd of March. We owe this to the great efforts of Juliet Dixon, Rose Smith, Bing Quintos and Gemma Evans, who creatively do their best to make our float presentable and the winner on the day. Also thank you to all the members who joined the parade, and the splendid dance presentation. The Multi Ethnic event is a great time to show our national costumes to other ethnicities and a chance to show them our amazing folk dances. I do hope next year there will be more Filipinos joining the parade. It shows who we are as Filipinos. On April 21st the society has initiated a fundraising event. A 50’s & 60’s Dance Party together with a live band Breaking News. This is a sponsored event and I would like to honour the people who are generously sponsoring this event. Any proceeds will fund our representatives at the upcoming October 2018 Pistang Pilipino in Rotorua. May we feel motivated to help the Taranaki Filipino Society attain its vision and maintain it’s worth amongst us Filipinos here in Taranaki. We can do anything if we stand together.
May God bless us all,
Romellia.
