Assignment Goal: To be1er understand the process of composi9on and other art terms through photography. 

Compose a series of photographs which demonstrate the formal elements of art. These include line, shape, texture, value, contrast, volume, pa1ern, and perspec9ve. Create images which evoke a response from the viewer.  

There are 16 required photographs. (These can be taken digitally and turned in on CD or USB flash drive or taken with a regular film camera and turned in as pictures.) Each photo taken has a specific content or composi9on listed below. Be thoughNul in your approach and take your *me composing your pictures. When in doubt, simplify. This way the required elements will stand out. Pay a>en*on to the edges, light and subject ma>er as if you were crea*ng a work of art. You are! 

1) Photo showing symmetrical or radial composi>on.   2) Photo showing an asymmetrically balanced composi>on.  3) Nature close‐up showing organic pa?erns and texture. 4) An abstrac>on created by zooming in on a familiar object, which shows strong use of posi>ve/nega>ve space.  5) Image showing one‐point perspec>ve. 6) Image showing two‐point perspec>ve. 7) Image showing three‐point perspec>ve. 8) Photograph demonstra9ng two or more implied lines. 9) Image which is made up of warm colors. 10) Image using strong light source to create contrast in values. 11) A photograph which establishes the scale of something by showing part of a human. 12) Demonstra9on of unity and/or variety by repea>ng elements in a composi>on. 13) Photograph which composi9onally uses emphasis to create a strong focal point. 14) Image which expresses a strong sense of emo>on. 15) Photograph which uses your own or found objects as symbols. 16) Photographic documenta9on of a temporary earthwork created by you in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.
