Techniques that we will use:

• Available light (window light)- no flash.• Studio lighting- no flash.• Flash (bounced and direct).

Assessment objectives covered:

• AO1: Develop your ideas using sources.

• AO2: Experiment with materials, reviewing and refining your work.

• AO3: Record your ideas, and observations reflecting on your work and progress.

• AO4: Present a personal response demonstrating critical understanding, and realising intentions

Point, Evidence, Explain

POINT- Available light can create drama and atmosphereEVIDENCE- This photograph shows how the available light from the window creates soft shadows on the sitter’s face.EXPLAIN- The camera must be set to eliminate the use of flash. Otherwise the camera flash would ‘bleach’ out the shadows, and would reflect in the window. Available light can be more difficult to use than flash photography, as the image can be pixellated when using digital cameras, and a tripod may have to be used.
