Task two

Medium shot-Black and white

Photojournalism

This is a picture of a Japanese boy emerging form his hiding place. (World war two) (June 1944)

Photographer: W. Eugene Smith

I chose this picture because it shows how children were also affected and were made to hide away. I think that this is an amazing picture because it was an “ In the moment” shot.

Close up shot-Black and white

Photojournalism

This is a picture of two men hand-cuffed together at the wrists.

I chose this picture because I think that it represents slavery, which I strongly disagree with. I was also strongly drawn to the fact that only the two men's hands were in the picture and you can not see their faces but sense sadness and being constrained.

Photographer: Ernest Cole

(August 10, 2014.) This picture shows Yazidi families cross the border to escape northern Iraq .

Long shot-Black and white

Photojournalism

Photographer: Moises Saman

I chose this picture because it shows a seemingly endless line of people all walking away from their homes and belongings to seek a better life, I Also chose it because it was taken recently which shows places in the world are struggling.

Photographer: Brian Skerry

This is a picture of Caroline Island which is part of the southern line islands in the pacific ocean.

Long shot-Colour

Aerial photograph

I chose this picture because it looks like an amazing place and I like that the sky and ocean seem to merge into an ongoing mass as you look further to the back of the picture.

This is a picture of rush hour in the New York subway. (1960)

Photographer: Thomas Hoepker

Medium shot-Black and white

Photojournalism

I chose this picture because it’s a one off “In the moment shot” and the photographer changed nothing about it leaving it blurred which adds to the daily life feel.

In 1958, Cole applied for a job with Drum magazine. Jürgen Schadeberg, (the chief photographer) employed him as his assistant.

Further work of Ernest Cole

Most of Coles pictures were of the poor treatment towards black people in south Africa and new York.
