PHONICS PICTURE CARDS

Phonics Picture Cards - instructions for use For some Readers, the Turning Pages approach will be sufficient, but when a little extra help is needed, these cards are intended to provide a colourful alternative and some variety. You only need use the cards for the letters that your Reader is finding challenging. The pictures are designed to help people to hear and make the pure sounds, and the shapes within the pictures to help make the link between the sound and the letter shape.

You can keep them printed out on sheets, or cut them up (when they would be better printed on card). When cut up, you can use them for a simple ‘pairing’ exercise to begin with, but once your reader is beginning to become familiar with the letter shapes, you could use a selection to play simple matching and pairs games.
