• The prevalence of belief is strong in the provinces. • The country has many islands and has lots of different

ethnic groups, so this mythology and superstitions are very diverse.

DEITIES & DERIVED

• This mythology includes deities, creation stones, mythical creatures, and beliefs.

• Are the gods, goddesses, and diwatas worshiped by ancient Filipinos before the Christianization of the natives after the Spanish conquest of the Philippines.

• It derived from the Philippine folk literature, which is the traditional oral literature of the Filipino people.

• Some believe in a Supreme Being and others worship the trees and forest deities which are the Diwatas.

• Diwatas came from the Sanskrit word dewata, which is one of the several significant Hindu influences in ancient Filipinos.

• Many similar gods and goddesses as Greek, Norse, Roman, Chinese, Egyptian, and Japanese mythology.

• Most of the gods were representations for Filipinos.

BERBEROKA• Is a creature of the Filipino mythology.

• It is a fresh water sea ogre that resembles a mermaid.

• It says that it sucks water from swamps and lakes to lure fishermen to the washed up fish.

• Once lured, the Berberoka uses the water by drowning them and eating them.

MAYARI• Goddess of the moon & part of the Lunar deity.

• One of the 3 daughters of Bathala, father is unknown.

• Most charming of all the goddesses and said to be the most beautiful.

FAMILY & FIGHTING

• Mayari had two sisters: Tala and Hanan.

• Tala being the goddess of stars and Hanan being goddess of morning.

• She fought her sister, Tala, when their mother died without leaving a will so nobody could decide who would rule the earth.

• During the fight, Mayari lost an eye.
