Andres Malong’s Revolt

Causes:

Spanish Oppression and the Desire to Replace the Spaniards as Personal Ruler’s of the People.

December 15, 1660

start of rebellion in pangasinan being inspired by the pampangueño rebellion.

Cause of Failure: by extending his sovereignty he sent

6,000 men to Pampanga and 3,000 men to Ilocos and Cagayan, and leaving only 2,000 men to defend his him in Pangasinan made his force weak that lead to failure.

Ilocano's didnot help because of loyalty in their land.

Zambals, Gumapos army, hid their valuables in the bishops house and other properties.

Gumapos was hanged in Vigan after being caught.

Cause of Failure: No cooperation from Ilocanos and weak

leadership.
