Welcome to Term Four—to all our riders, volunteers, Marlborough RDA supporters and a BIG hello to
our new riders. We’re sure you’ll enjoy your time with us here at Marlborough RDA.
Hopefully you all had a good break over the school holidays. Our horse team also had a wee break,
though some of them had fun being involved with the school holiday programme held on 7-9 October.
Check out the photos on page 4 in this newsletter.
Our Special Olympics Ribbon Day held on 7th September was a great success, see page 2 & 3 for more
on this.

Ribbon Day
Top effort awards were presented to:-
Hannah Dickens matched with Sundance, despite having first time competitor nerves and Sundance
challenging her with his cheeky tricks, this didn't stop Hannah having a great show,
Jack Bugler, who was thrown in the deep end after his usual horse, Nuggett, could not compete and he
took his ride on Rusty, whom he had never even sat on before! Jack was a great sport and pulled off some
really great results!
Well done everyone!!
It’s always a thrill to see our riders in full competition attire and competing
together at our Ribbon Day each year. On Saturday 7th September
fourteen ‘Special Olympic’ riders competed in three disciplines;
Equitation / Dressage / Working Trail, which tested their skills in working
with their horse or pony.
Everyone rode really well and the coaches all felt very, very proud of the
riders. Also, a big thank you to our guest judges, volunteers & coaches.
Standout results were:-
Highest dressage score (75%) for Benn Thomas on our lovely
Sundance , they certainly do bring out the best in each other (75%),
Sky Veevers riding Rusty who have only been a combination for a
short period of time, with a great score in Equitation of 76%,
Young rider Lawrence Piesse, riding Melody was three-way tied with
Charlotte Elliott on Halo and Jack Bugler on Rusty, all scored a
huge 87% in the working trail, with Lawrence taking out the top prize
on countback.

~ horse team update ~
… we bid a warm welcome to… Rusty & Jimmy.
J immy (left) has been
purchased by M a r l b o r o u g h RDA. He is a 7 year-old bay standard bred ex–harness racer and has a lovely friendly and gentle nature.
R usty (right & below right) is a sturdy 18 year-old bay Clydesdale x
Standard bred who has been loaned to Marlborough RDA courtesy of Suz Lloyd. Rusty is the largest horse we currently have here and came to us fresh from the hunting field where he cleared full-wire fences with ease!
Thanks to our multi-talented
volunteer, Masae, and her amazing
artistic ability, we now have these
beautiful and informative signs in
the tack shed and on our indoor
arena noticeboard. Not only do the
signs help our riders to find the
correct bridle for their mount, they
are also packed with fun facts about
their horse or pony.
Thanks Masae
The Special Olympics team
