PLES THE DEFINITION:…
Personal learning environments (PLEs) support self-
directed and group-based learning, designed around
each user’s goals, with great capacity for flexibility
and customization (NMC Horizon Report: 2012 K-12
Edition).
PLEs are undertaken using online tools to manage
and organise working spaces or to improve one’s
professional image.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A
PLN & A PLE…
PLE: Tools, artefacts, processes, and
connections that allow learners to control
and manage their learning.
PLN: The sum of all human/social capital
and connections that result from the
development and facilitation of a personal
learning environment.
((PLEs can be seen as a subset of PLNs.))
What are social media?
“Online technologies and practices that people use
to share opinions, insights, experiences, and
perspectives with each other.”
“Social media are works of user-created video,
audio, text or multimedia that are published and
shared in a social environment, such as a blog, wiki
or video hosting site.”
Social media can be used to develop professional
learning networks in various ways, there are a
number of working spaces the individual can use
in order to develop his PLE…
