Rights…Rights are predominately privileges granted

to individuals by governing bodies.

Responsibilities…A responsibility is a duty or obligation that is

accepted, or put into action.The expectation that you will take care of

certain things or perform duties.

The Connection…It is important to remember that rights are

granted based on an agreed set of behaviors and obligations, with the expectation of mutual respect and cooperation.

Every right manifests itself through a series of obligations or duties that flow outward from the central law, like ripples on water. It is these obligations or duties that we commonly refer to as responsibilities.

MeritocracyMERITOCRACY:

A meritocracy is a social system in which people’s success in life depends primarily on their talents, abilities, and effort.

Homework…On a 4 x 6 notecard, put your name and write

what you see as Hyde’s definition of Meritocracy.

These will be handed in.

Self-regarding feelings: those that prompt us to act on the basis of our likes and dislikes, our desires and fears.

Homework…Write two paragraphs describing a time

where you exercised self-transcending feelings.
