PUM Image Information
58
PUM Image Types2 types of PUM Images
Upgrade Images
Released infrequently (maybe once per year) and are designed to be used exclusively for the initial 9.2 upgrade process
Upgrade path can move directly Upgrade Image 003 (based upon PUM 024) CA Upgrade scripts are designed to run with this Upgrade Image Currently, the Certified Upgrade Path is to Upgrade Image 003 / PT 8.56.03 for
customers < 9.2 (it contains all prior maintenance up through PUM 024)
Update Images
Released more frequently (about one every three months) and are used for applying the latest maintenance, including new features and Tax Updates
After the completion of the initial upgrade process thru PUM 024, the latest Update Image can be applied to the upgraded database
Apply PUM Image 026 to get latest maintenance for Images 026)
59
PUM Considerations
Oracle’s VM VirtualBox software for the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) was not initially designed to work on other Virtual Machines such as VMWare
Prior to PUM 016 / 8.55, hardware virtualization could not defined in the VirtualBox when the host server was itself a Virtual Machine
Oracle now offers a Native OS install in place of the VirtualBox install that does not require a physical server
The PUM server should have at least 8 GB of RAM. Provide at least 100 GB of disk space per PeopleSoft Image configured on the server [most customers size at 32GB RAM, 512GB-1TB disk]
60
PUM Installation and Maintenance Effort
A single technical resource can complete all of the steps involved in installing, configuring and conducting the PUM updates
Other technical resources may be needed for configuring a physical server and any networking issues
The technical resource should be well versed in using Application Designer and Data Mover, as well as have good troubleshooting skill
The technical resource should allocate at least a week the first time setting up and using the PUM

85
Elasticsearch Installation Tips
Disk Space – minimum of 100 GB free disk space is required for Elasticsearch (ES) CPU – minimum of 4 CPUs is required RAM (Memory) – minimum of 32 GB available RAM is required to run an ES
environment. Oracle recommends 64 GB
Minimum Server OS:− Microsoft Windows 2012 R2− Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.6 or 7.1
Minimum PeopleTools− PT 8.56.05 or later patch
Other Oracle Recommendations− Install ES on a server that is separate from those used for PeopleSoft installation− Heap size (JVM memory) can’t be greater than 30GB− Oracle recommends setting heap size at about 50% of available server memory
and the remaining 50% should be free
86
Elasticsearch Installation Tips
Issues Found During Install (WorkStrategy)
When selecting a port to use for ES, make sure it is open on the server’s firewall In PeopleSoft application after search is performed, clicking on any results link
returns to the login screen. Solution: Update the PeopleTools patch to 8.56.07
SES and ES SES and ES can exist simultaneously within the same PeopleSoft application Creating an ES instance in the PeopleSoft application is the same as it is for SES Oracle's SES will be supported in PeopleTools 8.55 for eighteen months after the
release of PeopleTools 8.55.11, until April 30, 2018
87
Elasticsearch Installation
The Elasticsearch install looks similar to PUM install Elasticsearch also uses DPKs (Deployment Packages) There is only one Elasticsearch zip file to download from MOS
88
Elasticsearch Installation
Just like the PUM Image install, open a command window and execute the setup executable file psft-dpk-setup.bat
89
Elasticsearch Can Be Deployed Alongside SES
90
9.2 Upgrade Issues
Oracle uses Deployment Packages (DPKs) to assist with environment setup/config We have encountered issues creating environments using DPKs including
middleware installation and web server instance creation Because DPKs install software in default locations, be careful not to overwrite
existing middleware and PS Home environments In some cases, the old method of VCD files were used to get around PeopleTools
environment setup for the web server (instead of the DPK approach)
91
9.2 Upgrade Customer Results
Upgrades have helped to streamline / eliminate customizations Caution against bringing forward all existing customizations
− e.g. ePerformance, Time & Labor, non bolt-ons Fluid Self Service is big improvement to user navigation Customers are building Fluid Tile icons to Classic pages
Call outs!− Employee Snapshot− Manager Transactions (eProfile MD) and Guided Self Service− OnBoarding− Simplified Analytics− Classic Plus Pages− eBenefits Life Events− Activity Guide Composer− Classic Plus WorkCenters
