Our God is an awesome God;he reigns from heav’n abovewith wisdom, pow’r and love.Our God is an awesome God.

Our God is an awesome God;he reigns from heav’n abovewith wisdom, pow’r and love.Our God is an awesome God.

And when the skywas starless in the void of the night,Our God is an awesome God!he spoke into the darknessand created the light.Our God is an awesome God!

The judgment and wrathhe poured out on Sodom, the mercy and gracehe gave us on the cross.I hope we have nottoo quickly forgotten thatour God is an awesome God!

Our God is an awesome God;he reigns from heav’n abovewith wisdom, pow’r and love.Our God is an awesome God.

Our God is an awesome God.Our God is an awesome God.Our God is an awesome God.

Prayer of Confession

P: Let us pray…Merciful God, when we think of your great faithfulness and steadfast love,

All: we confess how far we fall short of both.

P: There are times when we judge others by our standards of faithfulness rather than yours. All: We confess that there are times when we believe that our works of faith earn us ‘special points’ with you.

P: And there are even times when we consider that our faith grows when we speak words about faith without making that faith evident in and through our lives.

All: We confess also that our busyness can so distract us that we let opportunities slip by to plant even the smallest seeds of faith.

P: Forgive us and increase our faith, O God, so that we can uproot any obstacles which hinder our faithfulness. This we pray in Jesus’ name.

All: Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness (based on Lamentations 3:22; 2 Timothy 1:9, 10)

P: Through the steadfast love and endless mercy of God, we are saved, not according to our works, but according to God’s purpose and grace - grace revealed through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day:Benevolent, merciful God: When we are

empty, fill us. When we are weak in faith, strengthen us. When we are cold in love,

warm us, that with fervor we may love our neighbors and serve them for the sake of

your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Opening Hymn #533 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty

Open now thy gates of beauty,Zion let me enter there,

where my soul in joyful dutywaits for God who answers prayer.

Oh, how blessed is this place,filled with solace, light, and grace!

Gracious God, I come before thee;come thou also unto me;

Where we find Thee and adore Thee,there a heav'n on earth must be.

To my heart, oh, enter thou,let it be thy temple now!

Here thy praise is gladly chanted,here thy seed is duly sown;

let my soul, where it is planted,bring forth precious sheaves alone,

so that all I hear may befruitful unto life in me.

Thou my faith increase and quicken,let me keep thy gift divine;

howsoe'er temptations thicken,may thy word still o'er me shineas my guiding star through life,

as my comfort in all strife.

Speak, O God, and I will hear Thee,let thy will be done indeed;

may I undisturbed draw near theewhile thou dost Thy people feed.

Here of life the fountain flows;here is balm for all our woes.

We Walk by Faith

#635 ELW

We Walk by Faith

#635 ELW

We walk by faith and not by sight;

with gracious words draw near,

O Christ, who spoke as none e'er spoke:

"My peace be with you here."

We may not touch your hands and side,

nor follow where you trod;but in your promise we rejoice, and cry, "My Lord and God!"

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief;

and may our faith aboundto call on you

when you are nearand seek where you are found:

For you, O resurrected Lord,

are found in means divine;beneath the water

and the word,beneath the

bread and wine.

And when our life of faith is done,

in realms of clearer lightmay we behold You

as You are,with full and endless sight.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God,the Father almighty,creator of heaven

and earth.

ELW p. 127

I believe in Jesus Christ,God’s only Son, our Lord,who was conceivedby the Holy Spirit,born of the Virgin Mary,suffered under Pontius Pilate,was crucified, died,and was buried;he descended to the dead.

On the third dayhe rose again;he ascended into heaven,he is seated at the right handof the Father,and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,the holy catholic Church,the communion of saints,the forgiveness of sins,the resurrection of the body,and the life everlasting. Amen.

Communion Hymn #502 The King of Love My Shepherd Is

The King of love my shepherd is,whose goodness faileth never;

I nothing lack if I am hisand he is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow,my ransomed soul he leadeth

and, where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,but yet in love he sought me,

and on his shoulder gently laid,and home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death's dark vale I fear no ill,with thee, dear Lord, beside me,thy rod and staff my comfort still;

thy cross before to guide me.

Thou spreadst a table in my sight;thine unction grace bestoweth;

and, oh, what transport of delightfrom thy pure chalice floweth!

And so, through all the length of days, thy goodness faileth never.Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever!

Sending Hymn #825 You Servants of God

You servants of God,your Master proclaim,

and publish abroad his wonderful name;the name, all-victorious, of Jesus extol;

his kingdom is glorious and rules over all!

Ascended on high, almighty to save,and still he is nigh, his presence we have.

The great congregationHis triumph shall sing,

ascribing salvation to Jesus, our King!

Salvation to God who sits on the throne!Let all cry aloud and honor the Son.

The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,fall down on their faces,and worship the Lamb.

Then let us adore and give him his right,all glory and pow'r and wisdom and might,all honor and blessing, with angels above,

and thanks never ceasing, and infinite love!
