THE WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY IN TURKEY

14th June 2009 World Blood Donor Day

was celebrated as an annual event with

various activities all over the country that

was organized by the Turkish Red

Crescent Society under the auspices of

the Ministry of Health in Turkey.

The main theme was “100% Voluntary

Blood Donation” in accordance with the

committee's decision which was

constituted of WHO, IFRC, ISBT, IFBDO.

We organized an annual ceremony in 15 Regional Blood Centers and 44 Blood Donation

Centers of the Turkish Red Crescent. In ceremonies, we wanted to express our gratitude to

our blood donors in the presence of local press by presenting

• a plate to 154 blood donors who donated blood over 45 times,

• a gold medal to 467 blood donors who donated blood over 35 times,

• a silver medal to 749 blood donors who donated blood over 25 times,

• a bronze medal to 3650 blood donors who donated blood over 10 times.

Blood donors have joined in various activities in this important day. The examples of some

Blood Centers activities were as fallows;

• Cocktail Parties,

• Picnics,

• Turkish Classical Music Concerts,

• Latin Dance Shows,

• Folk Dance Shows,

• A Trip by Sightseeing Bus,

• A Souvenir Lottery which is Supported by Local Shop Owner,

• A Marbling Art Show (Traditional Turkish Art),

• A Band Orchestra Show.

• A Show of Shadow Play (Traditional Turkish Shadow Puppet Play which is called

Hacivat & Karagöz)

An Invitation Card

We designed a poster, a post stamp, and

an invitation card which were specific of

14th June World Blood Donor Day. We

invited our blood donors to the ceremonies

with an invitation card which had the post

stamp on the envelope.

We attracted attention on voluntary, non-remunerated, regular blood donation and 14 June

World Blood Donor Day by mass media such as radio-attention, television programs.
