Been working in Networking since mid 1999’s
Worked for: • University • Internet Service Provider • Small Integrator • Research and Education Network
Involved with: • Internet Society Philippines (ISOC-PH) • Philippine Network Operators Group (PhNOG) • Philippine Open Internet Exchange (PhOpenIX)
Our expectations
• To help you better understand Internet networking • We’ll describe Internet Exchange Points • What routing protocols are used to connect organisations
together • Provide some labs where you work in teams to use what
you’ve learned • There are no stupid questions • Only missed opportunities to get answers • Lots of material but is it relevant to what you want to know? • If you have questions then please ask them at any time
4
Housekeeping
• 0900 start 0900-1030 1030-1100 tea break 1100-1230 1230-1330 lunch break 1330-1500 1500-1530 tea break 1530-1700 1700 end (in theory)
5
Overview
• Wednesday – Introduction to IXP and Routing, IPv6, OSPF
• Thursday – BGP Fundamentals, Attributes, Scaling, Policy Control and Multi-homing
• Friday – Route Collectors & Servers, Connecting to an IXP and Best Practice
• There are lab exercises where you will need to work in teams with a pair of students responsible for configuring each cisco router via the command line interface
6
Icebreaker
• The labs require you to work in a small group with pairs responsible for each router so now is a good time to get to know your workshop partner. Ask them some questions! – What's your name? – Where were you born and where do you live now? – What company, university, or government department do you work
for? And what's your job there? – Have you configured a router before? Which one(s)? – Are you a member of Network Operator Group? Which one(s)? – Is your organisation connected to an Internet Exchange?
• After five minutes, each person will introduce their partner to the class.

• PhNOG – http://www.phnog.com
https://www.facebook.com/groups/632112196877805/ – Also two meetings a year with workshops
• AusNOG & NZNOG – https://www.ausnog.net/ – http://www.nznog.org/ – Annual conferences – Presentations on-line might be of interest

Survey
• At the end of the workshop can you please complete the survey – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PH-PCTA-IXP-OCT2018
• This provides feedback to the organisers and to APNIC • Make use of the text box to include any feedback about the
workshop or the venue that needs more than a checkbox J • I’m happy for you to provide feedback about the course,
