According to WHO “Health is a state of complete

physical, mental, and social well-being and not

merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Components of health

Six components of health are:

Physical

Social

Environmental

Emotional

Spiritual

Intellectual/Mental

Concept of public health

Public health is defined as the organized measures

taken to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong

life among the population as a whole. It not only

means a healthy body but also means psychological

and social health also.

Components of public health

Monitoring -Health status of the community should be monitored to identify

heath problems.

Diagnosing and investigating

-Investigating the health problems lays a way to diagnose it.

Education

-Makes people aware about the health issues

Policies and plans

-Should be applied to support individual and community health

efforts

Law enforcement

-Protects health and ensures safety

Access to health services

-Link the people to the public health services

Assurance of workforce

-A competent workforce is needed for public health care

Evaluation -Public health based services should be evaluated

Research

-For new insights and innovative solutions to health problems

Concept of PHC

Primary health care refers to essential health care that focuses on health equity-producing social policy. PHC includes all areas that play a role in health, such as access to health services, environment and lifestyle.
