Personal Background

• Influenced by:– August Macke– Robert Delauney

• Part of the Blaue Reiter group• The Blaue Reiter was to "heal the gaping wound that separates man from his environment.”

• Almost all artwork based off of Delauney’s style of expressionism and cubism which included squares, and painting in oil paints.

• Most of Klee’s work is based on his dreams, and his inner child

• Part of WWI fighting for Germany in 1916

• In 1933 his art was condemned by Hitler and the Nazi party

• Hitler did not approve of his dreamlike paintings.

Influence of the Art World

Stylistic Traits• Surrealism: feature the element of surprise,

unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact.

• Cubism: objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics.

• Primitivism: looks like art that is done by a child. Usually the picture is painted very simply, and the subjects are "flat", or two-dimensional.

Conclusion

• My artwork shows the examples of Cubism in the background, Primitivism in the stars, Surrealism in the moon, and simple lines in the building.

• I have learned that Klee painted in layers of colors.

• The most difficult part of the project was to decide what to paint.

• My artwork has a strong background with different colors and a star lit night scene.

• The weakness of my artwork is the scene, because it was very difficult painting over layers.
